Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is a popular opinion that with the advancement in technology, theatres and cinemas have lost their significance. However, others believe that cinemas and theatres are still important. I strongly stand with this point of view.
No doubt, after the introduction of Over The Top (OTT) platforms like Netflix and Disney, people have access to a world of entertainment just from the comfort of their home. Poeple can pay a small subscription fees and have millions of movies in their reach for a whole month. However, going to cinema is not about just watching movie, it is an outdoor social gathering that provide a chance to people to socialise with friends and watch movies together. Sitting in a hall creates a sense of harmony among the people. For example, watching a football match or a movie with many people multiplies the joy than watching it alone.
Moreover, staying at home all the times can create fatigue and dullness. cinemas and theatres provide a chance to break the routine and have quality time. Threatres also allow us to see our favourite actors in front of us, a feature screen can never provide. People can meet and greet them and take selfies or autographs. Theatres help promoting the culture of a country a lot because they are made by locals and for the locals. It has also played a significant role in spreading literature. For instance, Shakespeare dramas were played on stage and gained massive fame.
In conclusion, despite the widespread popularity of online entertainment sources, cinema and theatres are still relevent and can play and effective role if given the attention they deserve.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the decline of physical entertainment venues due to online alternatives and their enduring economic and cultural importance, while clearly stating the writer's position. However, some ideas remain under-developed. For instance, the economic and cultural aspects mentioned in the prompt are touched upon rather superficially through general statements about promoting local culture and literature, such as 'Shakespeare dramas were played on stage', without fully exploring the broader economic impact on local businesses or the unique cultural value of communal attendance. To reach a higher band, the main arguments regarding economic and cultural significance need to be more fully extended and supported with deeper explanations or more robust examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introducing the topic and acknowledging online platforms, to arguing the social benefits of cinemas, and finally discussing cultural aspects and concluding. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. Cohesion within and between sentences is generally functional, using cohesive devices such as 'No doubt', 'However', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesive links are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the abrupt transition between sentences in the second paragraph regarding watching a football match or movie. Additionally, referencing is sometimes imprecise, as seen with 'It has also played a significant role', where the exact antecedent is slightly ambiguous. To achieve a higher band, the connections between sentences and paragraphs need to be smoother and more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's ideas. The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'advancement in technology', 'subscription fees', 'fatigue and dullness', and 'widespread popularity'. However, there are several noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that reflect a Band 6 level. Examples include spelling errors like 'Poeple' and 'Threatres', incorrect pluralisation or articles in phrases like 'going to cinema' and 'all the times', and minor lexical inaccuracies such as 'help promoting' instead of 'help to promote' or 'help promote'. These errors do not impede communication, but to reach the next band, a wider range of vocabulary must be used with greater precision, better collocation control, and complete spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as concessive clauses ('It is a popular opinion that...') and conditional or participial modifications. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as capitalization issues ('cinemas and theatres provide...', 'Threatres also allow...'), missing articles ('going to cinema'), and preposition or verb pattern slips like 'provide a chance to people to socialise'. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument without difficulty. To move up to a higher band, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with a higher proportion of error-free sentences and tighter control over punctuation and articles.
