Student answer (Band 6.0)

Theatres and cinemas have always been crucial source of entertainment for peoples. Weather its black and white screen era or digital IMAX screens they have played a vital role in both economically and culturally. I think they are still important to get the real time screen experience and entertainment.

The purpose of theatres and cinemas was to provide better screen experience but today in this digital era everyone have amoled screen displays in mobiles where thay can watch anything anywhere online easily. The online movies platforms have made it easy for users to watch any movie even if it is released recently. For example there was a movie named spider-man brand new day it was released recently and it had a good run over theatres and cinemas but it was available on ott websites the next day. So, these digital facilities have made things easy to access and therefore impacting cinames.

While mobile screens have made it easy to access everything but many believes that theatre and cinemas are still playing crucial role financialy. People still go to cinemas with families to get the better screen and enterntainment. In many areas these theatres hosts many cultural funcitons and movies that attract peoples. Moreover some movies are recorded in highly digital cameras that provide much clear and better view on big screens than on mobiles. For example recently a movie named Odessy, it was recorded for IMAX screens that is only available in theatres.

I believe they are important for entertainment, gathering and to enjoy the best screen experience. The movies and series makers also expect peoples to watch thier content legally so that they can earn and produce more easily. While also many things are available online there is no need to visit it for every single movie and series.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the decline of physical venues due to online streaming and their ongoing economic and cultural importance, while also presenting a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the introduction mentions that theatres have always been a crucial source of entertainment, but the subsequent elaboration on how digital platforms impact them is somewhat repetitive and under-developed, particularly in the second paragraph where the argument about OTT websites is left basic. The ideas presented are relevant and directly address the task, but pushing this response to the next level would require extending the supporting examples, such as the mention of specific films, with deeper analysis rather than simply stating them.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is a coherent overall arrangement to the essay, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing opposing views, and a concluding stance. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, such as the digital accessibility argument in the second paragraph and the financial and cultural arguments in the third. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. The transitions between sentences can feel abrupt, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in the final paragraph where it is not always obvious what specific nouns are being referred to. To achieve a higher standard, the writer needs to employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices to create smoother transitions and a clearer logical progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate the central arguments of the task, though the range is limited. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'economically and culturally', 'digital facilities', and 'IMAX screens', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling. Examples of these slips include 'crucial source' missing an article, 'peoples' instead of people, 'Weather' instead of Whether, 'financialy' misspelled, and 'enterntainment' misspelled. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect a lack of precision. To improve this score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to word forms and standard spelling conventions, and reduce reliance on basic repetitive terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as concessive clauses starting with 'While' and conditional-like constructions. However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues such as 'everyone have', incorrect article usage, missing prepositions, and awkward phrasings like 'played a vital role in both economically and culturally'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and run-on sentences in the opening paragraph. Although these errors rarely impede overall communication, they prevent the text from featuring the frequent error-free complex sentences required for a higher band. Greater control over grammatical patterns and rigorous proofreading for basic agreements would greatly benefit the writing.
