Student answer (Band 5.0)

There are some people who believe that in the time this digital era, cinema, theatres are no longer important for the people. They believe that they can get all the entertainment that they require are available online. On the other hand many believe that it's important for the economy of the country as well as for the cinema culture. I beg to state that, I believe cinemas are not equally important in today's world as it was back then.

To further add on to my statement, In the age of digital where a person can get access to all the content there is available in the world with a matter in minutes. People have access through the subscription model in which they pay monthly amount to these platforms like Netflix and Amazon. These are some famous platforms where a person can watch the content. Even though people have their own theatres in their own homes with big screens and speakers making it look and feel like a whole cinema.

I have personally had some friends who have their own theatre place. We gather on the every weekend and plan a whole night stay where we watch differenent movies or series, order some food and chill. The theatre have its own sound system and a big 75 inch screen .

To conclude that, I agree that in this digital age people prefers to stay at home in their comfort zone and watch movies at their own convenience, where they dont have to rush or be worried about that they are gonna miss the show because they were so piled up at work. Now they can enjoy at their own time and in your own convenience. Which i believe is a better way to enjoy and relax.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer acknowledges both views in the introduction, the discussion of the opposing view regarding the economic and cultural importance of cinemas is largely underdeveloped. The position is stated, but the arguments provided are limited and rely heavily on personal anecdote rather than broader societal analysis. The main body paragraph focuses narrowly on personal viewing habits with friends rather than fully exploring the economic and cultural dimensions outlined in the prompt. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present a fully developed discussion for both perspectives, ensuring that ideas are extended and supported with relevant general examples rather than relying solely on individual experiences.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organization, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. While paragraph breaks are attempted, the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical flow, moving abruptly between general statements about online streaming and specific personal anecdotes. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, such as the frequent use of phrases like 'to further add on to my statement' and 'to conclude that'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, which disrupts the reading experience. To improve, the writer should ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic and that ideas are linked smoothly using a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices without overusing mechanical transition phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'subscription model' and 'convenience', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in the time this digital era' and 'with a matter in minutes'. Spelling and word-form errors, such as 'differenent' and shifting between singular and plural forms like 'The theatre have', are present but generally do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their lexical range and demonstrate more precision in word choice and collocation, minimizing basic errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a limited range of structures. Although there are some attempts at complex sentences, these are often faulty, as seen in 'where a person can get access to all the content there is available in the world with a matter in minutes'. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('theatre have'), unnecessary articles, and awkward prepositional usage. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and increasing the proportion of error-free sentences while attempting complex grammatical forms with greater accuracy.
