Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the decline of theatres and their ongoing economic and cultural importance, followed by a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the arguments regarding online streaming conveniences and employment benefits are relevant, but the cultural benefits and the counter-arguments are somewhat generalized and lack extension. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more thoroughly explored and supported with more specific details or examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays an overall coherent arrangement with a clear logical progression of ideas from one paragraph to the next. The response is appropriately divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs representing each view, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, though referencing and linking can sometimes feel a bit mechanical. To improve further, the writer should ensure that cohesive ties connect ideas more smoothly without relying on repetitive transitional phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the main points about digital entertainment and employment. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'economically as well as culturally' and 'streaming applications', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, including 'arguement', 'nowday', 'steaming', 'prefered', 'benifiets', and 'fuctions'. These errors reflect a limited range and occasional inaccuracies that do not seriously impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. Expanding the control of word forms and spelling will significantly strengthen this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination with structures like 'whereas online sources allows' and 'although cinemas and theatres contributes'. However, there are some persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Online platforms provides', 'this employees pays', 'cinemas contributes'), incorrect articles, and preposition use. While these errors occur throughout the text, they rarely impede overall communication. To progress, the writer needs to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and refine control over basic grammatical agreements and plurals.
