Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally, as the text stops abruptly mid-sentence and fails to discuss both views fully or present a complete conclusion. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 135 words, falling significantly short of the 250-word minimum. While the writer attempts to introduce the topic and touch upon the online entertainment view, ideas are severely limited and under-developed due to the incomplete nature of the essay. To reach a higher level, the writer must ensure the full prompt is addressed with extended, well-developed supporting points and meet the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation evident through the use of standard framing phrases like 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand', indicating an attempt to structure the discussion. However, because the text cuts off prematurely, there is no clear overall progression or conclusion across the response. Paragraphing is attempted, but the abrupt ending prevents cohesive development. To improve, the writer needs to ensure that paragraphs are carried through to completion and that ideas flow logically from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion, using a wider and more natural variety of cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for communicating basic ideas, featuring frequent noticeable errors and awkward phrasings such as 'in online', 'physical hassles', and 'collecting tickets'. There are also spelling and word-choice inaccuracies like 'discribes' instead of 'discuss' and 'newly release' instead of 'new release'. These errors reflect a restricted range of lexical resources that cause some difficulty for the reader. To lift this criterion to the next level, the student should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, ensuring correct word forms, appropriate collocations, and accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent punctuation and spacing issues, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Nowadays, people' and 'necessary. However'), incorrect capitalization and pronoun usage ('Now i will'), and prepositional errors like 'in online'. The student relies heavily on simple sentence patterns, and attempts at complex structures are flawed. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures, improve control over articles, verb forms, and punctuation, and reduce the frequency of basic sentence errors.
