Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people claim that in this modern world, theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the the entertainment they want online. Others argue that theatres and cinemas are still of the same importance by both financial and cultural means. I agree with watching the content online instead of going to cinema.
To commence with, Theatres and cinemas are slowly losing their importance because of the new technological advancements. To explicate it, all the entertainment media, which is played in the cinemas is also available online. And people can watch it from any corner of the world while enjoying the comfort of their own home. There are also many other reasons like privacy concerns or some people are just shy around strangers which makes them like it so much. For example, a recent study by a university in California showed that more than half of the content consumers like to watch it online from their homes.
Furthermore, theatres and cinemas still hold their importance because of financial and cultural reasons. To elaborate it, going to watch funny media in these places instead of viewing it on the internet is far more cheap, because to watch it online one has to buy an internet package which is very expensive. There are also many cultural reasons behind it, like it can become a reason for families or the loved ones to spend some time together. For instance, a survey showed that people who tend to watch movies in cinemas are more likely to enjoy it than those who watch at home.
However I like to watch movies at home, because I don't like to travel and I feel more comfortable watching it at home in my bed.
In conclusion, both have their own advantages and disadvantages, it depends solely on the individuals that what they like the most.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the decline of theatres in the digital age versus their ongoing economic and cultural importance—and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, the point about internet packages being expensive is stated rather than logically supported, and the reasoning behind privacy concerns is left vague. Furthermore, your personal opinion shifts slightly in the body paragraphs and conclusion, presenting some inconsistency in the overall position. To move towards a higher band, you need to extend and support your arguments with more detailed, specific explanations and maintain a clear, consistent stance throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a coherent overall arrangement, and the essay is divided into logical paragraphs with clear introductory and concluding boundaries. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and repetitive. You rely heavily on formulaic transition phrases such as 'To commence with', 'To explicate it', and 'To elaborate it', which feel unnatural and disrupt the smooth progression of ideas. Additionally, referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'it' in sentences such as 'more than half of the content consumers like to watch it online'. To improve cohesion and progress to the next level, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more flexibly and naturally, avoiding repetitive structural templates.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points, but the range is limited. You attempt some less common vocabulary, but this often leads to noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. For instance, writing 'funny media' instead of 'comedies' or 'films', and stating that watching movies in cinemas is 'far more cheap' rather than 'much cheaper'. There are also minor awkward phrasings like 'by both financial and cultural means'. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your lexical repertoire, demonstrate greater precision in word choice, and ensure that collocations sound natural to the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic complex forms. When you attempt more complex structures, errors frequently occur. For example, there are issues with articles and plurals, as seen in 'watching all the the entertainment' and 'some people are just shy around strangers which makes them like it so much'. You also make grammatical errors in comparative structures, such as 'more cheap', and punctuation slips like missing a comma after introductory transition words. To reach a higher standard, you should incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentence patterns and improve your overall grammatical control.
