Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that in current era, theatres and cinemas are no longer essantial as people can watch anything online. Where as other people disagree about this opinion and they belief that theatres and cinemas are still important as it is economically and culturely benefitial. I partially agree with both views, along with few drawbacks.

On onehand, theatres and cinemas are equally important in maintaining economical conditions of any country. As it is considered as one of the important buisnesses in a domain of entertainment, and range of employments are dependent on live theatres performances and cinemas. One servey was conducted in japan, which illustrates that during pendemic of corona virus 55 percent of unemplyoment in theatres were due to absence of public, and it has a direct impact on any country reputation..

While on the otherhand, its cultural benefits are also crystal clear. It has a great impact on any society who supports mutual interaction and have a positive view on gathering people, as someone can have a quality time with their family once in a week. for example, some theatres and movies contain a vast history which is linked with specific culture or tradition and it can be benefitial for childern to learn about ethics and to gain knowledge about their ancestors and society.

Beside these importance, few people still hesitate to encourage theatres and cinemas, this is due to modern technology as every thing they saw in cinemas and theatres, are available online on different apps and websites. And with no efforts and cost they can enjoy whatever they want with the same environment. Future is also supporting this view, we can assume that by seeing advance technology such as VR, projectors, meta glasses and many more are launched in recent times and provide environment and entertainment equal to that of cinemas or theatres.

While concluding, both views are not completely wrong or not completely right, but it is important to have fun in theatres and cinemas occasionally, as it is helpfull in stabilizing culture and economy. Beside this online shows, movies or theatres should be wached but in a limited way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that cinemas are obsolete due to online viewing and that they remain economically and culturally vital—while presenting a clear personal position. The ideas are generally relevant, satisfying the requirements for the mid-six band, but some points show the characteristics of the next band by attempting deeper exploration, such as the mention of pandemic unemployment statistics in Japan. However, certain arguments remain somewhat under-developed, particularly the counter-argument regarding technological advancements like VR and meta glasses. To reach a higher level, all main ideas require equal extension and robust support, avoiding abrupt transitions between complex claims.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, grouping distinct themes such as economic benefits, cultural values, and technological alternatives into separate paragraphs. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, using standard markers like 'On onehand', 'While on the otherhand', and 'While concluding'. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally faulty, such as in the sentence 'Beside these importance, few people still hesitate...', where transition markers lack smooth integration. Progression is visible throughout the text, but achieving a higher band requires more sophisticated and flexible linking words rather than repetitive introductory phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's perspective on entertainment and digital media. The student attempts less common vocabulary items such as 'economically and culturely benefitial', 'mutual interaction', and 'stabilizing culture and economy'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-form errors that prevent the score from rising further, including 'essantial', 'Where as', 'belief' instead of believe, 'culturely', 'servey', 'pendemic', 'unemplyoment', 'childern', and 'wached'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect the limitations of the five-point descriptor while showing the adequate range of the six-point level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses. However, control over grammatical structures and punctuation is inconsistent, with frequent errors in articles, prepositions, plurals, and subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'in current era', 'range of employments', 'absence of public, and it has', and 'every thing they saw in cinemas and theatres, are available'. These errors, alongside persistent punctuation issues like lowercase letters at the start of sentences following periods and missing apostrophes, place this criterion firmly at the lower end of the spectrum, requiring more frequent error-free sentences to progress.
