Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that cinemas are no longer important due to online alternatives and that they remain economically and culturally vital—while also providing a personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, the arguments regarding online applications like YouTube and TikTok are repetitive, relying heavily on the notion that people are too busy to visit physical venues. Similarly, the points regarding economic benefits, such as job creation and income generation, are mentioned briefly without much extension or specific support. While a clear position is presented throughout the essay, the supporting arguments require further elaboration and clearer examples to meet the requirements of a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure. Each paragraph has a discernible focus, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing each opposing view, and concluding with a personal stance. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the transition of ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in repetitive framing phrases and occasional referencing issues, such as the pronoun use in 'its a best sourcr'. Furthermore, while logical progression is present, the connection between sentences within paragraphs can feel abrupt, which prevents the writing from achieving a more fluid organizational structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'intertainment', 'leisure activities', 'employement', and 'perservation', but these attempts are frequently marred by spelling errors and inaccurate word forms. Noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as calling cinemas a 'sourcr for securing cultural aspects' or mentioning 'funny activities', cause some difficulty for the reader and impede precise communication. To improve, the writer needs to expand their lexical range beyond basic terms and focus on correct spelling and word formation when attempting more advanced vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'importance of cinemas and theatres decline', missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and persistent punctuation errors such as lowercase 'i' pronouns and comma splices. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher level, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures while improving grammatical accuracy and control over basic sentence mechanics.
