Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's evolving world, it is often argued that cenimas and theatres are not required anymore in terms of entertainment as people can watch anything on digital apps. While, other believe that theatres and cinemas are still have paramount importance for economical and cultural growth. This essay will discuss both point of views before giving my viewpoint.
To begin with, In today's modren era, contemporary technology has significantly changed the ways of entertainment. Individuals no longer need to go to cinemas and theater to watch a movie or drama, they can use watch anything on their phones regardless of time boundaries, which discourages people from visiting cinema and theaters. For example, resreach shows cinemas and theaters experienced downward trend in a short period after apps like netflix and other online platforms becomes trendy.
Conversely, Some indivduals prefer going theater and cinema, because they enjoy big screens, the atmosphere and undisturb moment with family and friends away from home. Moreover live performance in theaters feels more realistic and entertaining to some people. In my opinion cinemas and theater plays a cruical role ecnomically and culturally because they preserve local traditions , stories and they create jobs and support other local businesses.
In conclusion, although digital advancment make it more convenient. I firmly believe that cinema and theaters are still important to safeguard culture and to support local economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theatres are obsolete and that they remain economically and culturally important—while also providing a clear personal opinion. However, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum two hundred and fifty-word count. Furthermore, the ideas presented tend to be limited and under-developed. For instance, while the essay mentions that online platforms caused a downward trend in cinema attendance, this point is not sufficiently extended with specific examples or deep analysis. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to expand the text beyond the minimum word count and explore each main point in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear structure that includes an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides and the writer's opinion, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to link arguments, such as 'To begin with', 'Conversely', and 'In conclusion', which demonstrates a logical progression. However, cohesion is at times slightly mechanical or repetitive, and referencing within sentences can occasionally feel abrupt. Moving to a higher band would require more flexible and seamless transitions between sentences and ideas, avoiding formulaic signposting and ensuring smoother overall flow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate main ideas about digital entertainment and cultural preservation. The response attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'paramount importance', 'contemporary technology', and 'safeguard culture'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'cenimas' instead of cinemas, 'modren' instead of modern, 'resreach' instead of research, 'indivduals' instead of individuals, and 'ecnomically' instead of economically. These lexical and orthographic inaccuracies show a limited yet minimally adequate range that occasionally requires the reader to decode the intended meaning. To improve this criterion, the student must refine word choice and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like 'While, other believe that...' and 'Individuals no longer need to go...'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause some difficulty for the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement problems like 'theatres and cinemas are still have paramount importance', missing articles such as 'going theater and cinema' instead of 'going to the theatre and cinema', and punctuation errors like unnecessary commas separating dependent clauses. Additionally, fragments like 'While, other believe...' reveal a lack of control over complex sentence patterns. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to increase grammatical accuracy and use complex structures with greater control and fewer errors.
