Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some individuals are of the view that theatres and cinemas have lost their value in the digital age. This notion is mainly because people now have access to online entertainment of their choice. On the other hand, others believe that they are vital for economic and cultural reasons. In my perspective, online entertainment has gained momentum in this digital age.
Accessing movies and other entertaining shows through the internet has rendered the two facilities less useful.People can watch any program in the comfort of their home. This allows them to have better control of their time as they can pause any show and resume it at will. Unlike cinemas this flexibility help with completing certain house chores simutaneously, for instance cooking. You can take short breaks here and there to ensure your food doesnt burn.
Furthermore one does not incur extra transport charges to travel to the movie house. Moreover, once off paid subcriptions for wifi connection makes it more affordable.Contrary to a cinema setup you can change in the middle of a series if it doesn't excite you.
On the other hand some people argue that these facilities serve a special purpose in our community. They believe that they are good for the economy. According to them, cinemas and theatres contribute huge sums of money to the nation.Certain individuals also also believe that they help preserve our culture. This is because some theatrical performances are based on culture and they present a good opportunity for cultural exchange.
Although this argument can be deemed fair, I strongly believe that they are other ways governments can make significant financial benefits. Public entertainment has never

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt only partially, which keeps the score at this level. While you mention both views regarding the role of theatres and cinemas in the digital age, your own opinion is somewhat unclear and remains underdeveloped. In the introduction, you state that online entertainment has gained momentum, but you do not clearly state your final stance on whether cinemas remain important economically and culturally until the final incomplete paragraph. Furthermore, your supporting ideas tend to be limited and are not fully extended. For instance, points regarding convenience, saving money on transport, and cultural exchange are stated rather than explored in depth with concrete examples. To reach a higher band, you need to ensure all parts of the task are fully addressed with a clear, consistent position throughout, and extend your main ideas with detailed explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation in your writing, but it lacks a clear overall progression from start to finish. You use basic paragraphing to separate your ideas, and some cohesive devices are present, such as 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand'. However, these devices are sometimes mechanical or used inaccurately, and referencing is not always clear, making the flow between sentences a bit choppy. Additionally, the essay trails off abruptly in the final paragraph without a proper conclusion, which disrupts the overall structure. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, you should work on logical progression between paragraphs, use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally, and ensure every essay has a complete and satisfying conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to convey your basic points. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'momentum', 'simultaneously', and 'subcriptions', but there are noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and word choice that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. For example, 'once off paid subcriptions' contains spelling and collocation issues, and 'change in the middle of a series' lacks precision regarding streaming habits. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items more accurately with attention to natural collocations, and carefully check your spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple and moderately complex sentences. When you attempt more complex forms, errors frequently appear, particularly with punctuation, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. For instance, missing spaces after periods ('digital age. This notion'), spelling errors in grammatical constructions ('flexibility help'), and minor agreement issues occur throughout the text. While these frequent errors do not completely obscure your meaning, they cause noticeable distraction for the reader. To move up, you need to produce a greater variety of error-free complex sentences and improve your control over punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and article usage.
