Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, some people believe that due to the advancement of a technology the theatres and cinemas do not have the importance as they had before. Also, some people have a strong opinion that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally.

I personally agree with the fact that yes due to technology the importance of the theaters and cinems has decreased as we can watch any show or cinema online from OTT plateforms. But I also completely agree that theater and cinema are equally imposrtant from both the percpective like from economically and culturally as well.

In current era where we can watch anything using online plateforms without even standing in line and with one click away so the current generation doesn't understand the importance about hte theatre and cinemas.

Let me explain the importance of the theatre Nd cinema from econimic and cuture aspects. When a show is arranged in the theatre people go there and buy the tickets and watch the show. when the break is given people eat from theat canteen so the kitchen staff as well as the preformer of the show gets the money directly. From culture aspect when the show is put up then the real people comes to perform so the social interaction happens.

Now from cinema perspective again when the movie is put up on a big screen we go to cinema theatre and buy the ticket and in the interval we buy pop-corn, snacks, drinks, etc. Even in cinemas so many people contrubute in back stage and not only actors.

So, In conclusion even though some people say that due to the technology or digital age the theatres and cinemas are no longer important as it was previously but I honestly think that theatresand cinema are still important both economically and culturally as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on whether theatres and cinemas remain important alongside the student's own opinion, noting that 19 words copied from the task prompt were not counted towards the overall length. However, the task is only partially addressed because the ideas remain limited and under-developed. While the student attempts to explain economic and cultural aspects, the points are repetitive and lack detailed support or specific examples. For instance, the mention of buying tickets and canteen snacks is too simplistic to fully substantiate the economic argument. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend their arguments with fully developed explanations and concrete examples rather than relying on brief, circular statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation present in the essay, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The logical flow is hindered by abrupt transitions and repetitive phrasing, such as starting multiple sentences with 'when' or 'now'. Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, leading to a disjointed reading experience. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks clear thematic progression, jumping abruptly between theatre and cinema without smooth signposting. To improve in this area, the writer should focus on logically grouping ideas and using a wider, more natural variety of cohesive links to connect sentences and paragraphs smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic, repetitive terms and makes noticeable errors in word choice and spelling throughout the text, such as 'plateforms', 'imposrtant', 'percpective', 'econimic', 'cuture', 'preformer', and 'contrubute'. While there are attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'economically and culturally', inaccuracies in spelling and word formation cause some difficulty for the reader and impede precise communication. To progress, the student should expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to word forms, and carefully proofread their work to eliminate frequent spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic coordination with frequent errors. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, as seen in run-on structures like 'In current era where we can watch anything using online plateforms without even standing in line and with one click away so the current generation doesn't understand the importance about hte theatre and cinemas.' Frequent errors occur in articles ('the theatres', 'in current era'), prepositions ('importance about'), and plurals ('theatresand cinema'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of grammatical structures with greater accuracy and better control over punctuation and agreement.
