Student answer (Band 6.0)

The rapid expansion of streaming platforms have trigerred debates and led to many questions about the relevance of cinema and theaters in this digital era. However, theaters remains vital driving the local economy and cultural traditions.

The people who are busy during weekdays and get only time during holidays or weekend do prefer streaming platforms and not theaters as they are not sure about their own availability and due to that they prefer this online digital platforms where they can watch as per their convenience and wherever they want. As they do not want to get into the hectic queue to book theater tickets and get exhausted even before the movie starts. Which is the reason they prefer the OTT platforms and not the cinemas. Morever these Streaming platform has become big enough now that they sign the deals with the studios or production house that creates movies about the availability of movie on their platform after the theatrical release. Which allow them to convince their target audience and also this platform serves content of multiple industries like Hollywood and Bollywood and many others and this make viewers to take subscription of these platforms as they get a wide range of contents across different languages with just one subscription which could be monthly or annually.

Some people likes the cinemas more than this online streaming as they like to experience the movies with their friends and other fellow audience and get that theatrical experience which they would not get while watching movies at home on OTT. Also these people argue that most popular Director like Cristopher Nolan, James Cameron and S.S. Rajamouli and many others they not just creates movie but they create a cinematic experience with their traditions which audience want to pursue only in cinema halls and not on Streaming platforms at home. Although after the theatrical window these movies mostly are available on streaming platforms to cater audience who missed the movie and also to countries where the movie was not released. And the studios partner with these OTT giants as they give Studios an additional source of income which allow them to recover significant portion of movie's budget.

Ultimately both Streaming platforms and Cinemas has their own importance where theaters are now a place where people not just watch movies together but they celebrate their favourite actor/actress together and which helps them experience the movies which they will not be able to when they watch alone at home. Whereas OTT platforms is more about the convenience and therefore allow people to watch movies if they missed in theaters or additional content from different countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the decline of traditional viewing due to online platforms and the enduring economic and cultural importance of cinemas, while also presenting a clear personal opinion. The main ideas are generally relevant, but some are slightly under-developed or repetitive, such as the extended discussion on streaming convenience in the second body paragraph. To reach a higher band, the arguments could be extended further with more precise real-world examples rather than generalisations about studios and release windows.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different viewpoints and the writer's opinion. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, with some run-on sentence structures and slightly repetitive referencing, such as 'these platforms' and 'these people'. To improve, the writer could employ a wider variety of sophisticated cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions between sentences to improve the overall progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas about the entertainment industry. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'theatrical window', 'streaming platforms', and 'cinematic experience'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'trigerred' instead of 'triggered', 'theaters remains' instead of 'remain', and the misuse of 'contents' as a plural noun in certain contexts. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a typical profile of this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures reasonably well. However, there are persistent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'streaming platforms have trigerred', 'theaters remains'), missing articles, and occasional punctuation faults, such as sentence fragments starting with 'Which is the reason' or 'Which allow them'. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they represent a recurring pattern of minor inaccuracies that prevent the achievement of higher bands.
