Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the digital era, the entertainment industry has developed alot. Every sort of entertainment is available online. Many individuals express their understanding of this digital world related to the sources of entertainment as everything is accessible on the internet and physical cinemas and theatres hold less significance now. Whereas, there are many individuals who think of theatres and cinemas as affective source of entertainment economically and culturally.

First of all, it is true though that in this world of internet, multiple platforms are available to look out for movies, dramas and online streams etc. For example, Netflix charge a minimal amount for the complete month and multiple movies, dramas, thriller series are in access and people can get themselves entertained in their private space. Their is no signs of disturbance and people can watch movies whenever they want. On the contrary, it does have an social effect that people are not experiencing a physical interactions with mob. There is no gathering of your friends and family, though people can invite their related ones but it is not obvious to have their availability each time.

Whereas, theatres and cinemas are better in terms of social gatherings, exchanging cultural norms, interacting with people and many more. Cinemas and theatres leave an everlasting impact on individual's mind in terms of physical interactions. People can observe how the mob is reacting to a special event occurring in a specific timestamp. Friends and family could be invited over to experience a quality time and create memories which could last forever.

Internet entertainment and physical entertainment in cinemas and theatres have their own pros but in my opinion, cinemas and theatre hold significance as it is pocket friendly and also providing an opportunity to interact with strangers which is really a positive impact.

In conclusion, both the views are true to the situation. For enjoying in the personal space, online mode of entertainment is good while for the physical collaboration, cinemas and theatres are of no match. My opinion stands with cinemas and theatres as the physical experience could be more enjoyable than getting lock in a room alone for watching movies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the decline of cinemas due to digital streaming and their ongoing cultural and economic importance, while also providing a personal opinion. However, some ideas remain under-developed or lack full extension. For instance, the discussion of streaming services in the second paragraph mentions Netflix and privacy, but does not deeply explore the broader economic and societal shifts. Similarly, the personal position is presented, but the supporting arguments regarding social interaction are somewhat repetitive rather than extended with fresh, well-supported examples. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more fully explored and substantiated with deeper reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance and logical paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing online entertainment, physical cinemas, and a concluding opinion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all,' 'On the contrary,' and 'Whereas,' but referencing and transitions can occasionally feel mechanical or somewhat faulty. For example, the transitional phrase 'Whereas' is misused at the beginning of the third paragraph as a direct contrast marker rather than linking clauses. Paragraphing is present and separates key themes, but smoother organizational progression between paragraphs would elevate the structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items and industry-related terms like 'digital era', 'entertainment industry', and 'cultural norms'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that reflect a limited and developing lexical control. Examples include 'alot' (spelling error), 'affective' instead of 'effective', 'Their' instead of 'There', 'an social effect', and 'physical interactions with mob' (unnatural collocation). These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score, and more precision in collocations and word forms is needed for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures like relative clauses and conditional ideas. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text. Issues include article errors ('charge a minimal amount', 'in access'), subject-verb agreement problems, and prepositional errors within grammatical patterns. While the meaning remains mostly clear and communication is rarely impeded by these slips, the frequency of grammatical inaccuracies prevents the response from achieving a higher level of structural control.
