Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern digital era, online streamimg platforms make it very easy and beneficial for people to watch movies, series and shows at home. Because of this, some people widely believe that theatres and cinemas are no longer needed. But in contrast, some people still believe that these places are still important both economically and culturally. In my opinion, even if watching movies is easy, yet traditional cinema halls or theatres are still essential.
On one hand, many people prefer to watch movies and series online because it is quit convenient to watch them on many websites like Netflix, Youtube, Cineby etc. Also watching them on these platforms are approximately cheaper than any buying tickets and going to a theatre. Morever, modern TV or PC's sound system are very good and comfortable to hear, so people have great experience watching shows at home. Also, some people are introvert and don't prefer socialising with people. Thus, many prefer that going out for a cinema is quit a waste of time and money.
Despite this, cinemas and theatres bring important benefits to local communities. Firstly, it helps our economy by creating jobs for actors, technicians and other staff members. Also, they also bring money to local businesses like restaurants, malls, supermarket etc. Morever, vising a cinema hall to watch a movie sitting with a big crowded people feels completely different from watching a movie alone in mobile or pc.
To conclude, although watching movies on online platform is beneficial and cheaper, yet I still believe that watching movies on theatres are also so important. It supports the economy and brings us closer to our culture as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the decline of theatres due to online streaming and their ongoing economic and cultural importance, while also offering a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the second body paragraph provides a solid exploration of local economic benefits and the unique social atmosphere of physical cinemas, points in the first body paragraph remain somewhat under-developed, such as the brief listing of websites like 'Cineby' without deeper elaboration. To reach a higher level, every main idea requires fully extended support and concrete explanation rather than brief generalisations, ensuring balanced coverage across all prompts in the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct thematic ideas. Cohesion within and between sentences is generally present, but the devices used tend to be slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on transitional phrases like 'Also' and 'Morever' to initiate new points. Additionally, referencing is occasionally imprecise, as seen in the pronoun usage in sentences like 'Firstly, it helps our economy', where the antecedent is slightly blurred. To achieve superior cohesion, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices and ensure smoother logical transitions between sentences without overusing formulaic linkers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate ideas about digital entertainment and traditional cinema successfully. There are attempts to use less common items and subject-related terms, such as 'technicians', 'introvert', and 'local communities'. However, lexical control is inconsistent, featuring noticeable word-choice errors, incorrect collocations, and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'streamimg', 'quit' instead of 'quite', 'any buying tickets', and 'vising'. Furthermore, expressions like 'big crowded people' are unnatural. These vocabulary slips do not severely impede overall communication, but they restrict the score. To progress further, the writer needs to expand their control of precise word forms, spelling accuracy, and natural collocations suited to academic writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response incorporates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and varied structures, such as concession clauses with 'even if' and 'although'. However, grammatical accuracy is limited by a persistent presence of errors in structures, prepositions, and plurals. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('watching them on these platforms are approximately cheaper', 'PC's sound system'), article omissions or misuse ('going out for a cinema', 'on mobile or pc'), and awkward prepositions within grammatical patterns ('watching movies on theatres'). While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, they occur regularly enough to prevent the writing from achieving higher accuracy bands. A stronger focus on proofreading basic agreement, articles, and prepositional patterns will greatly improve control.
