Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the era of technology some people argue that importance of theatres and cinemas are come to its end, as nowadays people can watch entertainment of their choice by using internet. However a group of people believes that they still have significance in economy and culture. According to my point of view cinemas and theatres are not that much popular and they loss their most of audience due to technology development.

On the one hand, number of people argue that cinemas and theatres can play significant role in economy and culture.Because they think that most of cinemas do their work on culture development by presenting cultural shows and elder people or those who intrusted in history can come and watch. Moreover, They are benificial for economy because theatres and are cinemas providing several employment oppertunities and pay taxes to governments. They are also giving chance to new actores, those which cannot get big contracts due to some reasons. So they can express their talent on big stage.

On the other hand, a group of people think that cinemas and theatres are not important because technology replace them. Most of the people want to find a convenient way for entertainment so they can find from internet without paying for tickets and going to cinemas or theatres. Many people do not have that much time so they avoide these activities. Also internet provide a variety of entertainment materials so easily anyone can choose and watch such as dramas, films, songs and short stories. Moreover there is no need to go to specific place for enjoyment.

In conclusion, cinemas and theatres have some benifits in economy and keep culture alive ,however they loss their importance due to the advancement of technology and also people do not have time to go in cinemas and theatres.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that theatres are obsolete and that they remain economically and culturally important—and includes a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the economic benefits regarding taxes and employment are mentioned, but other points, such as how technology has replaced physical venues, tend to over-generalise or remain somewhat repetitive. To move to a higher level, the ideas would need to be extended with more specific examples and deeper elaboration rather than relying on brief statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, the two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and the conclusion. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. The writer uses basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover', but referencing can be unclear, such as pronoun use referring to vague antecedents ('Because they think that...'). Progression is generally evident, but transitional links between sentences within paragraphs could be managed more flexibly to ensure a smoother flow of ideas throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to discuss entertainment and technology. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'employment opportunities', 'advancement of technology', and 'cultural development', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'intrusted' instead of interested, 'actores' instead of actors, and 'benificial'. These lexical slips and inaccuracies do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the response. To improve, the writer should focus on precise word formation, natural collocations, and correct spelling of common academic terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying on a mix of simple and somewhat faulty complex sentences. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('in economy', 'on big stage'), incorrect prepositions ('come to its end', 'go in cinemas'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('theatres and cinemas are come', 'they loss'). While these errors are noticeable and can occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, communication of the main message is still maintained. To achieve a higher standard, the writer needs to increase sentence variety and exercise firmer control over basic grammatical patterns, verb tenses, and article usage.
