Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this era of technology, everything can be access easily whether its information , news, job opportunities or entertainment activities. Technology has made people live easier and convenient . Opinions remain divided on whether threatres and cinemas are of less importance as people can consume the entertainment digitally whereas other insist that threatres and cinemas are still of high importance in cultural as well as economic aspects. Having weighed both sides,I lean towards the view that cinemas and theatreas are important both economically and culturally.

Advocates of consuming online enterrtainments typically points to advancement in technology arguing that nowadays through different apps like youtube, chrome and other movies app people can access the entertainment easily with high quality video. Moreover, different websites are created that help to find movies that are released in cinemas. For example, apps like moviebox and netflix through paid subscriptions help to access the entertainemnt digitally.

Those on the other side of the debate, however, emphasize the importance of the entertainment centers like cinema and threate for economic advancement and cultural depiction contending that it generate profits which boost economy and depicts the culture through visual interpretation. For instance, if threatres and cinemas are ban in a country it will not produce revenue and also will not promote its culture globally.

Ultimately , both positions capture part of a more complex reality. That said, i find the case for entertainment hubs promoting economy and cultture , the more persuasive one chiefly because its a way of generating monetary while promoting culture globally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that online entertainment has made physical venues less important, and that theatres and cinemas remain economically and culturally vital—while also presenting a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the paragraph on online entertainment lists examples like Netflix and Moviebox, but the explanation remains somewhat superficial and relies on generalized statements rather than deep analysis. Similarly, the economic and cultural arguments in the third paragraph are introduced with broad claims rather than robust supporting evidence. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more fully explored with specific examples and deeper elaboration of how cultural depiction actually occurs through these mediums.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout, successfully meeting the requirements of the lower band and showing some elements of higher-level organisation. The essay is appropriately divided into four distinct paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a summarizing conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For example', 'Those on the other side of the debate, however', and 'Ultimately' are generally used to guide the reader through the discussion. However, some referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the abrupt transition in the final sentence and minor punctuation lapses around discourse markers, which prevents the essay from achieving full flexibility in cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to discuss entertainment and technology. The writer makes successful attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'depiction', 'persuasive', and 'monetary', demonstrating some awareness of style and collocation. However, there are noticeable spelling, word-form, and word-choice errors throughout the text that reflect the constraints of this level. Examples of these inaccuracies include spelling 'theatres' as 'threatres', using 'access' instead of 'accessed', writing 'enterrentainments' and 'entertainemnt', and using 'generating monetary' instead of 'generating revenue' or 'monetary profit'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they recur frequently enough to prevent the lexical score from rising further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting subordinate clauses and compound structures such as 'Opinions remain divided on whether threatres and cinemas are of less importance as people can consume the entertainment digitally'. There are, however, some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing articles ('is not produce revenue' instead of 'will not produce revenue'), incorrect prepositions or verb forms ('whether its information', 'technology has made people live easier', 'if threatres and cinemas are ban'), and missing commas or spacing around punctuation marks. Despite these persistent errors, the structures are generally understandable, and the mistakes rarely impede communication, allowing the response to fit comfortably within this category.
