Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that cinemas are obsolete due to online streaming, and that they remain economically and culturally vital—while also presenting a clear overall position in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the arguments regarding online convenience are reasonably well stated, the exploration of the opposing view in the third paragraph is somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on brief assertions about sound systems, taxes, and cultural preservation without deeper elaboration or specific examples. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to extend and support all main ideas more thoroughly throughout the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical four-paragraph structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Information and ideas are generally organised, and transitional markers such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand' are employed to guide the reader through the text. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in awkward transitions like 'as firstly' and 'Although, for culturally these venues preserve'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences lack smooth internal linking. To improve further, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that sentences flow seamlessly from one to the next without abrupt shifts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'inhabitants', 'replicate', and 'heritage'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'advent of technology' missing an article, 'picture places' and 'boundation of time' which are unnatural collocations, and spelling mistakes such as 'prodomient', 'hassels', 'timimgs', 'genrates', 'undoutedly', and 'threaters'. To achieve a higher score, the vocabulary needs to be used with greater precision, natural collocation, and accurate spelling, alongside a wider selection of less common lexical items deployed with better stylistic awareness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate subordinate clauses and varied structures. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward syntactic patterns present throughout the text. These include preposition errors such as 'discuss about both the view pionts', article omissions and misuse like 'give verdict opinion' and 'for culturally', and awkward relative clauses or run-on structures such as 'due to individuals can enjoy'. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Greater control over complex sentence construction, articles, and prepositions is required to progress.
