Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believe that cinemas and theatres do not add any value in the current times as everything is now available on online platforms. However, others believe that they are an essential part and it promotes cultural values and boosts the financial economy.

Theatres and Cinemas are an important part of our lives as it offers an unmatched experience. Shows and movies are always fun to be watched on bigger screens and been sarrounded with culturally diverse like-minded and fun driven crowd. It offers an experience that you individually can not attain. At many times it is the people around you that elvates your experience rather than the show in itself. For instance, in cimenas when people from different ethnic and religious backgrounds come together to watch a movie offers a sense of belonging and communal togetherness while you share numerous emotional moments throughout the movie.

Nevertheless, in our fast paced lives it feels challenging to take out time for activities such as going to theatre and cinema. We rather prefer to watch a show or movie online in our own comfort and homes. As in, today's day every show/movie gets streamed online on paid application including Netflix and Amazon Prime, which gives you liberty to enjoy it at your own pace.

To conclude, I believe that theatres and cinemas play a vital role in our economy, as it is a crucial source of income for the digital world and media. And, when it comes to theatres many perfomers across the world comes to perform in your countries which leads to cultural exchange as well as economic boost. Hence, In my opinion this practice should be preserved and carried forward.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that digital platforms make cinemas obsolete and that physical venues remain economically and culturally important—while also presenting a clear position. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, while the social and communal benefits of watching films in a crowd are extended well in the second paragraph, the discussion regarding the economic impact in the conclusion remains somewhat generalized and brief. To reach a higher level, all main arguments need equal depth of support, perhaps by adding a specific example of how local economies benefit from theatrical releases.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments, with the second paragraph focusing on experiential benefits, the third on convenience, and the fourth on economic and cultural contributions. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'However', 'Nevertheless', and 'To conclude', which guide the reader smoothly through the text. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical. For instance, the transition 'As in, today's day' is awkward. Improving the flexibility and natural flow of cohesive ties between sentences would elevate this aspect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'communal togetherness', 'cultural exchange', and 'fast paced lives'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and word forms throughout the essay. Examples include 'sarrounded' instead of surrounded, 'elvates' instead of elevates, 'cimenas' instead of cinemas, and the phrase 'financial economy' which is somewhat redundant. These lexical errors and awkward collocations occasionally distract the reader, though they do not impede overall communication. Expanding precision and mastering word forms will strengthen this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordinate clauses with structures like 'while you share numerous emotional moments' and 'as it is a crucial source of income'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('perfomers across the world comes'), incorrect prepositions or prepositional contexts ('watched on bigger screens and been sarrounded'), and redundant commas ('Hence, In my opinion'). These errors are typical of this level, forming a mixture of flawed complex structures alongside error-free simple sentences, and they rarely impede communication. Greater control over complex clause patterns and articles will help improve accuracy.
