Student answer (Band 5.5)
Although, people argue that in the technological era, theatres and cinemas are no longer important because people can watch entertainment they like online, others believe that theatres and cinemas still carry an economical and a cultural importance.
Though, both ideas have their own justification, I strongly believe that theatres and cinemas are still significant. This essay is based on both the views and my opinion in the above ideas.
In the past, people often used to visit theatres and movie places to enjoy as there was no availability of internet back then, but nowadays, people tend to stay at home and just watch any form of entertainment they want in the internet. Although it may be beneficial for the users in a financial way, the people working in the field of entertainment will have less oppurtunities. For example, a theatre and a cinema both have staffs controlling every area, but when people do not visit these places, the staffs will no longer be needed, which will create a difficulty in their livelihood. Hence, the customers using online resources may save a little money but due to it many people may suffer, so it is vital to use the infrastructures for enjoyment purposes.
Theatres and cinemas shows the culture of different individuals, containing the emotions. When people use technology, the culture of going to theatre for watcing any performance disappears. For instance, children are taken to theatre to watch dramas. Those drama provide the information about an individuals identity and heritage. Many highschoolers go to the movies to have a relaxing holiday. But when all of it is interupted by the online creations, people slowly forget their culture. Theatres and cinema keeps them alive.
In conclusion, though entertainment places cost a little money than watching the same thing online, it helps as a source of income for another person. Moreover, it prevents individuals cultural background from disappearing. Hence, both theatres and cinemas are still important in the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the rise of online entertainment versus the economic and cultural importance of physical venues—and presents a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the economic argument regarding staff loss is mentioned briefly without fully exploring broader economic impacts like ticket revenue or local business stimulation. Similarly, the cultural point about high schoolers visiting movies is a bit simplistic. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to extend and support all main ideas with deeper explanations and more comprehensive real-world examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a basic, coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. However, the progression is sometimes hampered by mechanical or repetitive cohesive devices. For example, transitional phrases like 'In the past,' and 'In conclusion,' are used, but referencing within and between sentences can be faulty, such as the abrupt transitions between the economic and cultural arguments. Additionally, cohesive devices are occasionally inadequate or overused, leading to a somewhat formulaic feel. To achieve higher coherence, the writer should ensure smoother logical transitions and more precise referencing to guide the reader seamlessly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing entertainment and lifestyle trends. There are noticeable lexical errors and issues with word choice and spelling that occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'oppurtunities' instead of opportunities, 'staffs' instead of staff, and 'interupted' instead of interrupted. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'infrastructure' and 'heritage,' but these are sometimes used with slight inaccuracy or inappropriate collocations. To reach a higher level, the student must expand their range of vocabulary, improve spelling accuracy, and use less common lexical items with greater precision and natural stylistic control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response utilizes a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are noticeable errors in grammar, articles, and punctuation throughout the text. For instance, the opening sentence contains an unnecessary comma ('Although, people argue...'), and phrases like 'in the internet' should be 'on the internet'. Other issues include pluralization and preposition errors, such as 'Theatres and cinemas shows' instead of show. While these frequent errors rarely completely obscure the core message, they cause noticeable difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to employ a wider variety of error-free complex structures and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and preposition use.
