Student answer (Band 5.0)

Today, I would like to talk about the arguments of people regarding theatres and cinemas. Some thought they are no longer important in the digital age. Others thought that they are still important both economically and culturally.

Firstly, I would illustrate facts regarding theatres and cinemas in the digital era. Advancement in the technology make it easier for someone to watch and enjoy movies online. The corporate workers like to watch shows and movies online while staying at home. There are several reasons in their point of view. For example, working all day make them so tired so on weekend they prefer to stay at home.

Furthermore, here comes the next category for whom the theatres and cinemas are still important. I think this category is best because they maintain the difference between social and personal life. No matter how tired they are, they would priortize to do things physically. For example, On holidays or weekends they like to watch movies with their family and friends . These things refresh our culture of meeting someone and spend quality time with them. In this way we met with people that improves our social lives and bring great oppurtunity.

In conclusion, I am admire to say that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally in our lives. Hanging out with friends bring the sign of good luck and prosperity. Somehow, physical meetings and gatherings maintain our relationships healthy and pure.So my opinion is that going to theatres and cinemas is worth it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response sits at this band because it addresses the task only partially. It attempts to discuss both views regarding the role of theatres and cinemas in the digital age, as well as providing an opinion, but the ideas are limited and under-developed. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met: the response contains 242 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum, with 11 words copied directly from the prompt not being counted towards the total. The student expresses a basic position in the conclusion, but the arguments provided in the body paragraphs, such as talking about corporate workers being tired, lack sufficient extension and relevant examples to fully explore the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text demonstrates some organisation with basic paragraphing and clear transitional phrases like 'Firstly' and 'In conclusion', but there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the essay. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'category' to describe groups of people. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'here comes the next category for whom', which sounds unnatural and mechanical. While the general arrangement makes the text partially coherent, the logical links between sentences and paragraphs require much smoother and more natural transitions to achieve a higher standard of flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'Advancement' and 'prosperity', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, including 'I am admire to say', 'priortize', and 'oppurtunity'. Spelling errors like 'priortize' and 'oppurtunity' also occur, though they do not severely impede communication. To move higher, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary and demonstrate greater control over word formation and natural collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There is a limited range of sentence structures, with basic forms dominating the text. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the clause 'Advancement in the technology make it easier', where subject-verb agreement is incorrect. Frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, and articles are present throughout the essay, including 'Some thought they are no longer important', 'working all day make them so tired', and 'bring the sign of good luck'. These errors require some effort from the reader to interpret the meaning. Greater variety and control of complex structures, along with improved grammatical accuracy, are necessary to progress.
