Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The essay addresses the task only partially, presenting both views and a personal stance, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the prompt asks to discuss how theatres and cinemas are important both economically and culturally, yet the cultural aspect is largely neglected in favor of repeated, underdeveloped points about the economy and employment, such as stating that making cinemas helps the country economy. Furthermore, the position is not always clearly sustained throughout the response, as the arguments tend to repeat rather than progress logically. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all parts of the task by providing well-supported explanations and specific examples for both economic and cultural dimensions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but the logical flow between sentences is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent use of transition markers like 'Furthermore' and 'In addition' in awkward ways, or mechanical referencing like 'everything can watch in online'. The relationship between ideas is not always transparent to the reader. To improve, the writer should ensure that each paragraph builds systematically on the previous one, using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive ties to connect thoughts smoothly and logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common expressions, but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'come for watching movie in online', 'another felling', and 'opportuinties'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'indidiviuals', 'counsins', and 'influne'. These lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. To move up to a higher band, the student must expand their vocabulary range and pay closer attention to natural collocations, word forms, and accurate spelling when attempting more ambitious language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a limited range of structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic complex forms that frequently contain errors. There are frequent grammatical mistakes involving verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'theatres and cinemas are remain important', 'a country are able', and 'how its entertaining'. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, leading to confusion in meaning, as seen in sentences like 'the question of whether a segment of the society assert that...'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To achieve a better band score, the writer must demonstrate greater control over basic and complex grammatical structures, reducing the frequency of errors that impede readability.
