Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays online streaming platforms are in trend. And many people think that watching movies on a big screen is not that important. While a part of society believes that in terms of culture and economy of a country is still important. According to me this cinema industry still plays a crucial role economically and culturally. In this essay i will discuss both perspectives and will give my opinion about it.

On the one hand, Online streaming platforms are getting popular. As they are easily available and financially more reasonable. Consuming content digitally for entertainment is more feasible for people who are struglling financially or who are not getting time out of their busy work schedule. For example on applications like Amazon prime video, Netflix and Jio+Hotstar enormous amount of movies and series are available to watch and all the movies released in theaters are also available on these patforms after a month or two and that also with a very reasonable amount to pay for their subscription. Which makes people to avoid multiplexes in recent time.

On the other hand, these big screen theatres supports a country's economy and conserves the traditional way of entertainment. The feeling of watching a movie on a big screen is totally amazing, the craze of the audience to watch their favourite artists in those large projections is still very much important. Also we can't forget about the contribution of cinema industry to the economy of a country. For example when a movie is projected in a theatre, there are lot of people who are getting employed in one way or other, which helps them to grow and the gdp of a country as well. Hence, these theatres plays a vital role in economy of a region as well as it is still great source of entertainment.

In conclusion, even the digital age is making entertainment more feasible for some people it should not be at the cost of decline of the Cinema industry which is an essential part of a country which preserves the culture and contributes the economy of a it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that theatres and cinemas are no longer important due to online streaming, and that they remain economically and culturally vital—while clearly stating your own position. You successfully present relevant ideas throughout the essay, meeting the expectations for this level. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the economic contribution mentioned in the third paragraph is stated broadly without sufficient specific support or detail, showing elements of both the lower and higher bands. To reach the next level, you need to fully develop all main points with extended explanations and more robust supporting examples rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. You make appropriate use of basic cohesive devices and organizational markers such as 'On the one hand,' and 'On the other hand,' which helps guide the reader through the contrasting viewpoints. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas. Nevertheless, referencing and cohesion can sometimes feel a bit mechanical or faulty, as seen in minor awkward transitions and slightly fragmented sentence connections, such as starting consecutive sentences with conjunctions like 'And' or 'Which'. To improve further, ensure that cohesive devices integrate smoothly without drawing attention to themselves, and strengthen internal paragraph cohesion through more varied referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and industry-specific terms such as 'streaming platforms', 'multiplexes', and 'subscription'. Your word choice is generally clear enough to communicate your ideas without impeding the reader. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and inaccuracies in collocation, such as writing 'theatres supports', 'gdp of a country as well', and minor spelling mistakes like 'struglling'. Furthermore, some phrases are repetitive or slightly unnatural in academic writing, such as 'are in trend'. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary with greater precision, better control of word formation, and fewer lexical inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures. However, there is a lack of sustained control over complex grammar, with frequent errors in basic agreement, article usage, punctuation, and sentence fragments. Examples of these issues include 'According to me this cinema industry', 'In this essay i will discuss', fragment sentences like 'Which makes people to avoid multiplexes in recent time.', and 'contributes the economy of a it.' These errors require some effort from the reader to interpret fully. To progress to the next level, you must increase your range of error-free complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
