Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response addresses the task only partially, presenting a position that is not always clear and relies heavily on memorized, generic templates rather than directly engaging with the prompt. While the essay touches upon the topic of theatres and cinemas, the ideas are limited and under-developed, often shifting into vague statements about 'society better' and 'personal development' rather than discussing the economic and cultural importance of cinemas versus online streaming. To improve toward the next level, the writer needs to directly answer all parts of the prompt with specific, relevant ideas and extend them with concrete examples rather than relying on generalized padding.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The text displays some organizational structure with distinct paragraphs, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The use of cohesive devices is inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, as seen with disjointed transitional phrases like 'First. there are' and 'Another, crucial aspect'. Additionally, paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by irrelevant template sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow a cohesive argument. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure that cohesive devices connect ideas smoothly and logically, establishing a clear thread of reasoning throughout the response without relying on mechanical connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'embercing' instead of 'embracing', 'overrall', 'ecnomic', 'fulfiling', 'authorties', 'encourging', and 'importment'. These errors create some difficulty for the reader and reveal a restricted range of vocabulary. The writer attempts some less common words, but frequent inaccuracies in collocation and spelling prevent the response from reaching a higher standard. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic spelling, expanding vocabulary related to the prompt, and ensuring words are used in their correct forms and contexts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, with frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, as illustrated by awkward phrasing and punctuation errors such as 'First. there are' and 'If we approach it with wisdom and foresight, At least, In my conclusion theatres and cinemas...'. There are also issues with preposition usage and sentence fragments, such as 'Through education and awareness initiatives there are encourging everyone'. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to produce a greater variety of error-free sentences, improve punctuation control, and eliminate frequent basic grammatical errors.
