Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task partially, touching upon both views regarding the importance of theatres versus online entertainment, and stating a personal position in the introduction. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on why cinemas are economically or culturally significant is largely absent, focusing instead almost entirely on personal comfort and viewing experiences. The body paragraphs present relevant points, such as the social aspect of cinemas versus the convenience of home streaming, but these arguments lack extension and detailed support, which prevents the response from reaching a higher level of task fulfillment.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organization with a clear paragraph structure, including an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a brief conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas across the text. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent transitions like 'In addition', 'To explain more', and 'As a result'. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and logical links between sentences can feel mechanical, affecting the overall flow and coherence of the essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express basic concepts about entertainment. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as writing 'significant role' without an article, 'foam' instead of 'form', 'on online platform' instead of 'on online platforms', and 'house chaos' instead of 'household chores'. Attempts to use less common items are present, but inaccuracies in phrasing prevent a higher level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside a few basic complex forms. Attempts at more complex structures are often faulty. Frequent errors in grammar are apparent throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('social experience have followed', 'It also provide'), missing articles ('plays significant role', 'The atomsphere of the theatre makes the movie more enjoyable'), and prepositional usage. While communication is generally maintained, these frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted grammatical repertoire.
