Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, technology has transformed the way people communicate, work, study and entertain. Some people believe that theatres and cinemas are useless thing as people can enjoy everything online, while others argue that this entertainment platforms are valuable for both economically and culturally. This essay will discuss both before presenting why I believe that theatres and cinemas remain fundamental for a country's economic and cultural growth.

On the one hand, due to advances in technology, people can enjoy any kind of entertainment online without leaving from home. It is also affordable and accessible to people beacuse they enjoy streaming at their own pace without spending a single money. Poeple can watch any kind of shows and cinemas with their family or friends at their home, which makes watching movies more entertaining and enjoyable. For instance, individuals who have busy lifestyle can watch movies or dramas on a weekend with their family members and spend quality time together. Moreover, some websites such as netflix, prime video, amazon have been developed to watch movies, shows or dramas for free or just by a little amount of monthly or yealy subscription. Even, poeple can also re-watch any shows or movies if they want.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas play as a catalyst for preserving our cultures and traditions. If people do not go to these platforms and buy tickets to watch show, it hampers our economic growth. Producers and actors are paid with the money people purchase for tickets, and from this our governments also get benefits. Apart from this, a country's culture and history can easily recognize through a cinema or drama. For example, in Bangladesh, there were various cinemas and dramas have been created with the idea of liberation war, which helps young generations to know about their liberation history.

In my view, movie halls are important for developing a citizens knowledge about their own cultures and traditions. Though citizens can enjoy those shows for free of cost, I therefore, believe an artist can present his creativity if people appreciate his work by going to theatres and cinemas.

Overall, online platforms are easy to access for watching any movies or shows, whereas enjoying movies at theatres or cinemas can develop a country economically and culturally. So, both platforms are viable for audiences, the consequences will be very dangerous if we replce one with another.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the decline of theatres in the digital age and their ongoing economic and cultural importance, while clearly stating the writer's position in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant, but some are more fully developed than others. For example, while the economic benefits regarding ticket sales and government revenue are well mentioned, the cultural points in the third paragraph tend to over-generalize slightly. The response shows characteristics of both Band 6 and Band 7 because it covers all parts of the prompt with a clear position throughout, but certain arguments require deeper extension and more specific real-world illustration to reach a higher level of development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently arranged, with each paragraph having a distinct focus: introduction, online entertainment view, theatre and cinemas view, personal opinion, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'Apart from this' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and logically. To move further up, the writer could ensure that referencing within sentences is smoother and avoid minor mechanical transitions, but the overall structure clearly meets the requirements for this band level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'catalyst', 'liberation war', and 'creativity'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form that place the response at this level. Examples include 'useless thing' instead of 'obsolete', 'valuable for both economically and culturally' instead of 'economically and culturally valuable', 'spending a single money' instead of 'spending any money', and 're-pe' or similar minor issues. Spelling is generally good, but some phrasing feels awkward or unnatural. Expanding the range of precise collocations and monitoring word forms will help elevate the lexical score in future tasks.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses and conditional structures. However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Examples of grammatical slips include 'beacuse they enjoy' (spelling and agreement slip), 'to people beacuse' (faulty pattern), 'poeple can also re-watch' (plural/spelling), 'a citizens knowledge' (missing apostrophe), and 'for free of cost' instead of 'free of charge'. While these errors occur with some frequency, they rarely impede overall communication. To achieve higher bands, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over prepositions and article usage.
