Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student acknowledges both views regarding whether cinemas are still important or replaced by online streaming and provides a concluding opinion, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. The position is not always clearly sustained throughout the essay, and arguments regarding economic and cultural impacts are overly brief, relying heavily on vague statements rather than fully explained examples. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to present a fully developed position with well-supported arguments for both sides, ensuring that every point is extended with clear reasoning and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation present, such as the use of basic transition markers like 'on the first hand' and 'In conclusion', but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, and paragraphing is poorly handled, with large blocks of text containing multiple shifting thoughts. Referencing is also occasionally unclear. To improve, the writer should structure the response into distinct paragraphs with clear topic sentences, ensuring that ideas flow logically from one to the next using a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices without over-relying on mechanical formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader. The student attempts less common vocabulary, but this results in frequent word choice, collocation, and word form errors, such as 'audutorum cineplex', 'enterinment', and 'poorover'. Additionally, there are numerous spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'plateforms', 'netflex', 'convinient', and 'connsider'. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range, demonstrate greater precision in word choice and collocations, and significantly improve spelling control to ensure communication is not impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and missing articles, such as 'they helping for democrastic' and 'they both main connsider of own dependency'. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences and misplaced semi-colons or commas causing difficulty for the reader. To reach the next level, the writer needs to produce a better mix of simple and complex sentence forms while improving grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding verb structures, articles, and sentence boundaries.
