Student answer (Band 5.5)

People hold differing views about wheather in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want online or it is still important both economically and culturally. While there are valid arguements on both sides,I believe that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. This essay will examine both perspectives and explain my opinion.

On the one hand, supporters of digital age's people that theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want online. The main justification for this view is that the young generations people are impatient and they want everything without any delay.Another reason is that now a days people are always occupied with their works and jobs they barely got any time for themselves.Furthermore, they are pretty much busy building their own life. Some with academics, some with work and some buliding thjeir own business. So for them it is pretty much impossible to take some moment from their busy schedule for the theatre. This can be a major rason why many people support this perspective.

On the other hand, those who support theatres and cinemas are still essential both economically and culturally.Because everyone needs a break or fun day in their life and cinemas are a type of thing that any kind of people or relationships can enjoy. There are plenty of cinema choices that anyone can enjoy according to their taste.People can enjoy movies with their family, friends and even with loved ones. From my perspective,it is not only important for economy or culture it is also impotant for thr mental health. It is a entirement thing that gives joys and a fresh mind to function better in life. Moreover,it gives a lot of job opportunities to many stage of people.Govt is also gets benefits from the tax from the theatres.

In conclusion, both perspective have some merit.Nevertheless,I believe that theatres and cinemas are still important for many reasons.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on the importance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, which keeps the response at this level. For instance, the body paragraph discussing the view that cinemas are no longer important relies on repetitive claims about people being busy with work, academics, and businesses without fully exploring the underlying economic or sociological reasons. Similarly, the counterargument touches on mental health and job opportunities, but these points are stated briefly rather than extended and supported with concrete examples. Note that 49 words copied directly from the prompt were excluded from the official word count, though the response successfully met the minimum length requirement overall.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organization with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the four-paragraph structure is visible. However, there is a lack of clear progression throughout the body sections, and referencing is sometimes confusing or unclear, as seen in the awkward phrasing opening the second body paragraph ('supporters of digital age's people that theatres...'). Cohesive devices are used, but they tend to be mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. Furthermore, logical transitions between sentences within paragraphs are sometimes abrupt, resulting in choppy connections between ideas. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to ensure smoother logical links between sentences and more flexible use of cohesive devices to guide the reader seamlessly through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'justification', 'perspectives', and 'opportunities', but there are noticeable word-choice and word-form errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include phrasing like 'a type of thing that any kind of people or relationships can enjoy', 'an entirement thing' (intended as entertainment), and 'many stage of people'. Additionally, there are several spelling and word-formation errors such as 'wheather', 'arguements', 'rason', 'impotant', and 'buliding'. To improve lexical resource, the student should focus on expanding their range of vocabulary, learning correct word forms and collocations, and checking spelling carefully before submission.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic complex patterns. When the student attempts more complex sentence structures, they are frequently faulty, leading to frequent grammatical errors. There are notable issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'Govt is also gets benefits', and missing or incorrect articles, prepositions, and punctuation throughout the text (for example, missing spaces after commas and periods). Errors such as 'barely got any time' or 'any kind of people' also reflect weak control over standard patterns. To achieve a higher band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and improve basic grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding verb forms, articles, and punctuation.
