Student answer (Band 5.0)

some individuals oppose that digital age , theatres and cinemas are no longer as important as before because they can be watched online while others argue that theatres and cinemas are still crucial ecomomically and culturally. This is true because the advanced use of technology has made things easy but i think this shouldnt be encouraged so that theatres and cinemas can still be promoted economical and culturally.

firstly, when they are watched online they will make them less meaningful in reality because the energy of watching online and physically wont be the same. for example when its online people wont learn as they should but when it is physical they will have quality time and good memories to keep .

secondly, watching online can save the cost of transportation and it can be covinent for some individuals who are so busy all day at least they wont miss anything . But the problem is if everybody continue to stream it online our upcoming generation wont know the history and economic important, in addition, going to the cinemia and theatre is educative as you have some pratical knowlege and and see the works of old hostorical leaders representing culture and belief. But, with the techologically mindset you can learn but you cant beat the importance of it ecomically and culturally

In conclusion, digital age should not be encouraged as this will rapidly reduce the importance of cinemas and theatre so i think that the cinemas and theatre will give them more pratical knowledge than online as whatever you see for yourself it sticks more than what you watch over the internet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views regarding theatres and cinemas versus online entertainment and offers a personal opinion. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, which keeps the score at this level. While the writer mentions economic and cultural aspects, the points lack sufficient extension and support with concrete examples. Note that 16 words copied from the prompt were not counted. The position is stated, but the arguments tend to repeat similar points about practical knowledge rather than exploring a wider range of ideas. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to expand on the economic and cultural implications with more fully developed explanations and specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with the use of transition markers such as 'firstly', 'secondly', and 'In conclusion', but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structuring of ideas within paragraphs feels disjointed, leading to repetitive arguments about online versus physical viewing. Cohesive devices are sometimes repetitive or inaccurate, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun use referring back to vague nouns. To achieve a higher band, the essay needs a more logical sequence of ideas with smoother transitions between sentences and clearer overall paragraph progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'ecomomically', 'covinent', 'cinemia', and 'techologically', along with awkward word formations like 'historical leaders' or 'practical knowledge'. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they cause some difficulty and distraction. To improve lexical resource, the writer should focus on expanding their vocabulary range, improving spelling accuracy, and using appropriate collocations related to the topic of arts, culture, and digital media.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures. Although there are some attempts at complex sentences, these are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence and conditional-style clauses like 'if everybody continue to stream...'. There are frequent errors in grammar, including subject-verb agreement issues, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and poor punctuation and capitalization. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate weak control over complex grammatical patterns. To reach a higher band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of sentence structures with greater accuracy and reduce basic grammatical slips.
