Student answer (Band 5.5)
People of the modern era have different opinions about the significance of theatres and cinemas. Some people see them as a cultural asset as well as source of income, while other think that they are no longer necessary because people can watch every type of entertainment whatever they want onlline.
When we look at the latest advancements in the internet world, all kind of entertainment stuff is easily available and people can watch it in their comfort zone. It creates convenience for people.
For example; if someone makes a sudden plan to watch a particular movie or show, he doesn't need to check the whole schedule of cinemas or theatres and buy a ticket in advance and then wait for the time slot in which the film will be played. He also need to get ready and travel to cinema to watch that entertainment stuff. And what if that specific thing is not available to watch during that spare time a person might have? In this senario the cinemas and theaters looks very inconvenient and time taking especially when people are living in the era where the life is going very fast and they hardly find spare time. Online watching allows a person to take a pause wehenever they want and continue again in their free time. Comfort has taken the importance of these places.
When we talk about their cultural and economic significance there is no doubt about it. The cinemas and theatres are the cultural asset of any country. They provide a great place to hang out with friends and family. People spend quality time with their beloved ones on these entertainment places. The economical role of the cinemas can be easily replaced by watching online. As we know most of the plateforms which provide entertainment stuff are paid. It means people are spending money to watch their favourite things same like they used to do in the past to watch in cinemas and theaters. It means the economy is not getting disturbed by watching online. It is just shifting from one source to another.
I personally like watching online while sitting in my favourite cozy bed. Friends can also meet and hangout at homes and watch movies together and can enjoy their favourite show. It saves time and creates comfort.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on the importance of theatres and cinemas versus online entertainment and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and uneven. For instance, the argument regarding the economic role of cinemas in the fourth paragraph contains some confusing reasoning, claiming that online platforms replace the economic role while simultaneously arguing that spending simply shifts from one source to another without disturbing the overall economy. Furthermore, the position is somewhat simplistic, relying heavily on basic notions of personal convenience and comfort rather than deeper cultural or economic analysis. To move closer to higher bands, the ideas need to be more fully extended and supported with clearer, more sophisticated reasoning and less generalisation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some overall organisation, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing different aspects of the prompt, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression across the text, and the logical flow is occasionally disrupted. Cohesive devices are used somewhat mechanically or inadequately, such as the repetitive use of 'It means' and 'It is just' in the fourth paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks seamless transitions. For example, the transition from the inconveniences of physical cinemas into their cultural and economic significance feels abrupt. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure a smoother logical progression between paragraphs and use a wider, more natural range of cohesive devices without over-relying on simple formulaic structures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the main points. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'cultural asset', 'advancements', and 'inconvenient', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and collocation. For example, there are spelling errors like 'onlline', 'senario', 'wehenever', 'plateforms', and 'hangout' used as a noun instead of 'hangout spot' or 'gathering'. Phrases like 'entertainment stuff' are overly informal and repetitive. To reach the next level, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, use more precise and natural academic collocations, and eliminate spelling mistakes that occasionally cause mild confusion for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response shows a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside basic complex forms. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly involving subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions. Examples include 'other think', 'all kind of entertainment stuff is', 'he doesn't need... and buy... and then wait', 'He also need to get ready', and 'at these entertainment places' instead of 'in these places'. Punctuation errors also appear, such as the misuse of a semicolon followed by 'if' ('For example; if someone...'). While communication is generally maintained despite these issues, the persistence of frequent grammatical errors prevents the writing from securing a higher band score.
