Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only partially. Additionally, the word count requirement of at least 250 words is not met, as the text contains only 216 words. The essay attempts to discuss both views regarding the importance of theatres and cinemas versus online entertainment, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the introduction introduces a slightly confusing premise about dealing with issues by arranging setups to make memories, rather than directly tackling the prompt's core debate. The student's own opinion is also not clearly maintained throughout the essay and cuts off abruptly in the final sentence, preventing full development of a position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in the text, with paragraph breaks used to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the confusing transitional phrase 'First of all, several persons thinks' and the abrupt shift to 'On the other hand'. Furthermore, referencing and logical flow are compromised by sentences that do not connect smoothly to one another, making the overall structure feel mechanical and disjointed rather than logically sequenced.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'digitalisation', 'cuitural values', and 'personage', which stem from incorrect word choice or word form and cause some difficulty for the reader. Spelling mistakes also occur, including 'bilief' instead of belief and 'toghether' instead of together. While the writer attempts to use less common items like 'crucial' and 'entertainment', the high frequency of inaccurate word choices prevents the vocabulary from reaching a higher level of precision and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'several persons thinks' and 'they saw every thing', as well as tense inconsistencies and punctuation errors like unnecessary spaces before punctuation marks. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty or incomplete, as seen in the fragmented and ungrammatical opening sentence. The high frequency of basic structural errors restricts the writing to a lower grammatical tier.
