Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response addresses the task only minimally, as it falls short of the minimum word count requirement by 22 words, with 33 words copied directly from the prompt excluded from the count. The student attempts to discuss both views regarding the relevance of theatres and cinemas in the digital era and offers a personal opinion, but the ideas remain very limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding economic and cultural importance in the third paragraph is vague and lacks clear explanation or specific support. The position of the writer is somewhat unclear due to awkward phrasing and fragmented reasoning throughout the essay, which prevents a fully realised discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The information and ideas are not arranged coherently, making the overall progression difficult to follow. While the student attempts to use transition markers such as 'In this modern era', 'Another side', and 'To conclude', these cohesive devices are used inaccurately and mechanically. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical structure of paragraphs is weak. For example, the fourth paragraph abruptly introduces an irrelevant analogy about a train engine to support the argument about watching movies at home, which disrupts the flow of thought and makes the connection between sentences very unclear.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily strained by frequent errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation. Expressions such as 'no anyone take enjoy', 'cheerful moments outside his houses', and 'wandering in theatres' demonstrate a very limited control of language. There are noticeable awkward collocations like 'selling cinemas workers economically', and spelling issues such as 'satify' and 'intrusting'. These lexical inadequacies and inaccurate word choices frequently strain the reader and impede clear communication throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of faulty attempts at complex sentences with frequent errors that distort meaning. There are persistent problems with subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and sentence structure, as seen in 'everybody busy on their Smartphones' and 'if you everybody see movies sitting at home you never enjoy your life'. Punctuation and articles are frequently misused or omitted entirely, such as in 'movies,Episodes,Series everyting at home and this is only on for possible WI-FI,5g uses Networks.' These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader.
