Student answer (Band 4.5)

on one hand Some people say that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want online.on other hand some mankind argue that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally.

in my opinion theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally because still people would like watch new movies in cinemas. moreover they are sometimes waiting for their favourite movie and after realise the movie they usually want go for watching movie whith loved ones.

if i talk about a theatres so it is significant for our culture because still people playing a religious , comedy and drama performance. in addition it is widely like to watch of old people because they are more or more intreated in religious and drama.in the treater some of people playing role in real time while in cinema we watching recorded video.there are huge difference to watch a cinema and theatre.

on other hand, i believe in morden era pupils more like watching entertainment such as movies and series on online because they don't like to go cinema for watching movie furthermore they hardly get the free time in the day. also now days people more secure to their privacy. therefor they think theatres and cinemas are no longer important cause to mankind can watch all the entertainment on online.

but cinema and theatres are more significant for economic.for example in India cinema and theatres are generate 2 percent of gmp.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response sits at this level because it addresses the task only partially. First, it is important to note that the length requirement is not met; the student's response contains only 207 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum, with 47 words copied directly from the task prompt. Furthermore, the position is not always clearly stated, and the ideas presented are somewhat limited and under-developed. While the writer attempts to discuss both views regarding theatres and cinemas versus online entertainment and provides a brief personal opinion, the supporting points remain basic and lack sufficient depth or elaboration. For instance, the mention of India generating '2 percent of gmp' is underdeveloped and contains a factual or terminological slip ('gmp' instead of GDP). To reach higher bands, the writer must ensure the minimum word count is met, fully develop all parts of the prompt with extended arguments, and present a well-supported, consistent position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The essay demonstrates some organisation, but there is no clear overall progression from paragraph to paragraph. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'on one hand', 'on other hand', and 'if i talk about'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical flow and smooth transitions. Referencing is also faulty at times, making it difficult for the reader to follow the exact progression of ideas. For example, jumping abruptly between live theatrical performances and online streaming creates a disjointed reading experience. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices naturally, ensure clear logical relationships between sentences and paragraphs, and structure the argument so that the progression is apparent throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'economically', 'culturally', 'performance', and 'morden era', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'morden' instead of modern, 'treater' instead of theatre, 'realise' instead of release, 'intreated' instead of interested, and 'cause to mankind can watch'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations restrict the precision of the response. To progress, the writer should expand their lexical repertoire, learn correct word forms and spellings, and focus on using vocabulary more accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors in complex structures. There are persistent grammatical errors regarding verb tenses, articles, plurals, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of errors include 'people would like watch' (missing infinitive particle 'to'), 'playing a religious , comedy and drama performance' (article and singular/plural issues), 'we watching recorded video' (missing auxiliary verb), 'pupils more like watching' (awkward phrasing and missing auxiliary), and 'theatres and cinemas are generate' (incorrect verb form). These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer must practice forming complex sentences accurately, ensure proper subject-verb agreement, use correct verb tenses consistently, and eliminate basic structural slips.
