Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt partially, discussing both views and providing a personal opinion, which keeps it within the expected scope. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed, with simplistic explanations regarding why people stay at home or why cinemas remain economically important. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response falls short of the minimum two hundred and fifty words. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all parts of the task with extended supporting examples and explanations, while ensuring the minimum word count is satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some overall organisation, with attempts made to divide the essay into paragraphs introducing different viewpoints and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and repetitive statements. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or inaccurately, such as repetitive use of basic connectors like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' which fail to guide the reader smoothly. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs often feel disjointed. To improve, the writer should ensure each paragraph has a clear central theme supported by logical, step-by-step progression and varied cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring frequent errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation. Words like 'indivduals', 'curcial', 'modren', 'digitals', 'frefer', 'eassy', 'theathers', 'creat', 'instants', 'shoud', and 'imprtance' demonstrate noticeable spelling and collocation issues that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'watch', 'home', and 'movies'. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range, demonstrate better control over less common vocabulary, and eliminate basic spelling and word choice errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writer displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that are heavily flawed. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Mostly, indivduals says'), incorrect verb forms ('people can easily to watch', 'shoud also to earn'), missing articles, and faulty punctuation. These errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to practice basic sentence patterns, ensure correct verb patterns and agreements, and reduce the density of grammatical errors across the text.
