Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the era of digitalization, few individuals contend that entertainment sources such as watching movies in the theatre and cinema are outdated, as all such entertainment can be provided on a smartphone. Others argue that they are still important from an economic and cultural point of view. Though both perspectives hold significant merit, I am of the conviction that cinema and theatre are a large part of revenue-generating businesses, and the experience of a movie in the hall is different, as it seems engaging and stress-free. This essay will discuss both viewpoints before presenting my reasoned opinion.

On the one hand, proponents of online viewing, who believe the cinematic fun can be possible on mobile, argue that it will be a waste of time and money to go to the cinema. This is primarily because the youngsters believe in online convenience; they can do it according to their wants and needs. For example, with online movies, we can cut, rewind, and pause as we want. Moreover, the money we spend on going to the cinema is saved as well.

On the other hand, critics contend that cinema and theatres play a pivotal role in the country's economic and cultural importance. This Viewpoint is supported by the fact that watching a movie in a hall provides a real cinematic experience without any disturbance. Moreover, it is also a part of our country's revenue because a movie from our country represents our culture in the world and generates money as well.

In conclusion, while both views have merit and benefits, in my opinion, I believe that preserving our theatre and cinema for representation in the world is more practical and beneficial in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on whether theatres and cinemas are still important or outdated in the digital age, and you included your own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Your position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, in the second body paragraph, your point about youngsters using online convenience like 'cut, rewind, and pause as we want' remains quite basic and could be expanded with deeper analysis of how this impacts traditional viewing habits. To reach a higher level, ensure that every main idea is supported with thorough explanation and fully realised examples rather than generalized statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing opposing viewpoints, and a concluding summary. You make use of standard organizational markers such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in your argument. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or formulaic. Referencing and referencing pronouns occasionally lack precision, such as when shifting between 'they', 'it', and 'cinemas' without entirely clear antecedents, which makes the flow slightly rigid. To improve, work on weaving your sentences together more smoothly using subtler logical transitions rather than relying heavily on standard signposting phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'digitalization', 'revenue-generating', 'pivotal role', and 'practical'. Your meaning remains clear throughout, and readers can easily follow your arguments despite some minor vocabulary and collocation choices that lack precision, such as 'cinematic fun can be possible on mobile' or 'watching a movie in a hall provides a real cinematic experience'. Spelling is generally accurate. To achieve a higher band, focus on refining your word choice and collocations to sound more natural and sophisticated, and aim to use precise academic terminology with greater stylistic control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the response, successfully constructing compound-complex sentences such as 'Though both perspectives hold significant merit, I am of the conviction that...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including minor preposition and article slip-ups like 'watching a movie in the theatre and cinema' instead of 'theatre and cinema', and occasional issues with pluralization or subject-verb agreement. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and your meaning is consistently transparent. To progress further, increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and ensure rigorous control over punctuation and grammatical agreements.
