Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the contemporary society, it is widely argued whether cinemas are still useful or not. There are some individuals who state that we no longer require theatres, as now movies can be accessed online. Nevertheless, others claim that cinema halls contribute to economic development of a country as many people still prefer them for entertainment. In this essay, I will discuss both ideas and state my opinion as well.
To commence with, proponents of one theory believe that we don't need movie halls in the modern era because technological advancements has made it convenient to watch series online at homes. It is evident that the popularity of such places have dropped substantially because people find watching films online inexpensive and convenient. For instance, if a person lives in a place which is at a distance from a movie theatre, so watching movie on a laptop can be a better option in this case. Therefore, this approach has reduce the trend of movie theatres.
On the other hand, opponents feel that film theatres are significant, as they provide a source of income for the film industry. In other words, members of society who owns the cinema halls, and those who work in movies contribute to the economic development. Therefore, movie halls are essential for generating revenue for that particular industry. For example, a local film being displaced in public places will be able to reach more audience, and hence more profit can be obtained.
Although both viewpoints have their own merits, from my perspective, movie theatres and cinemas are crucial as in many cultures, people still opt for them rather than watching films alone. Moreover, theatres also contribute in economy, and hence they cannot be abandoned.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and give a clear opinion that cinemas remain important, particularly in the final paragraph. The discussion is relevant, but the two sides are not developed equally or in enough detail. The online-entertainment argument mainly says that viewing at home is cheaper and more convenient, with the example of someone living far from a theatre; explain further how streaming may replace cinemas or what viewers gain from it. The economic case is also asserted rather than fully demonstrated: the claim that cinema owners and film workers contribute to the economy would benefit from a specific explanation, such as employment or ticket revenue. The cultural importance mentioned in your opinion is not explored. Developing these points and supporting them more precisely would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. Linking expressions such as “Nevertheless,” “On the other hand,” and “Moreover” help signal the direction of the argument, and the ideas are generally easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and shows some stronger control through clear paragraphing. However, some connections are mechanical or imprecise. For example, “Therefore” repeats the cause-and-effect link without adding much, and “For instance” introduces an example that is not fully connected to the economic claim. The reference in “this approach” is also somewhat vague. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and ensure each paragraph develops one clear line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “technological advancements,” “economic development,” “inexpensive,” and “generating revenue.” These choices allow you to discuss convenience and the financial role of cinemas, and the meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “proponents of one theory.” At times, however, word choice or collocation is inaccurate or repetitive: “useful” is less precise than “relevant” in this context, “watching series online at homes” is awkward, and “a local film being displaced in public places” does not express the intended idea clearly. “Movie halls” is repeated frequently. Aim for more natural topic-specific combinations and vary references to cinemas and film exhibition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because people find watching films online inexpensive and convenient” and a concessive opening with “Although.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, so errors rarely obstruct understanding. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “technological advancements has made,” the plural subject requires “have”; “the popularity of such places have dropped” has the same agreement issue. The conditional example contains an unnecessary “so” after “if,” and “this approach has reduce” needs the past participle “reduced.” In “members of society who owns,” the verb should agree with the plural subject. Review subject–verb agreement and verb forms, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
