Student answer (Band 5.0)

some people argue that in the digital age, theaters and cinemas are no longer significant as people can get access all the entertainment they want through the internet, while others believe that theaters and cinemas are still hold the importance both economically and culturally. I strongly believe that online entertainment platforms have replaced traditional entertainments choices.

on the one hand, the need for traditional entertainments is rapidly decreasing and no longer significant as before. this is partly because of the pries increase of tickets, as a result people are losing interest in theaters, and people busy in their hectic lives, they no longer have the time to spend that much time for a movie. for example, New York city which the average working hours of a person doesn't leave them much time for entertainments. as a result, people are switching to online entertainment platforms.

on the other hand, people want entertainment through online. this is because these online entertainment platforms can be very flexible and can be accessed from anywhere doesn't concern geographical location

and it is lot cheaper than money spent on theaters and cinemas. for example, in a city like Bangalore, a person wants to take his family for a cinema can cost more than half of their salary. therefore, people are choosing online over theaters.

in conclusion, I strongly believe that in today's digital age where are choosing online entertainments, theaters and cinemas no longer hold the significance ones they held and these no longer hold the importance both economically and culturally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a clear overall view that online platforms have replaced traditional entertainment, and you give reasons such as ticket prices, busy schedules, convenience and cost. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, including why theatres and cinemas remain economically and culturally important. Your first body paragraph argues that they are declining, while the second mainly explains the advantages of online viewing; it does not develop the opposing case presented in the question. The examples of New York and Bangalore are relevant to affordability and time, but they are broad and not fully explained. To strengthen the response, present a genuine argument for cinemas’ cultural and economic value, then support both sides with specific, clearly connected examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “on the one hand,” “on the other hand” and “in conclusion” help identify the sections. However, the overall progression is limited because the second body paragraph does not actually develop the opposing view; it continues to support online entertainment. Some links are repetitive or unclear, and the sentence beginning “for example, New York city” is not smoothly connected to the preceding point. The conclusion repeats the position but does not bring together a balanced discussion. Organise the body paragraphs around the two views in the prompt, and use clearer links to show how each example supports its paragraph’s main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “digital age,” “online entertainment platforms,” “geographical location” and “hectic lives.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, spelling and collocation errors make parts of the response awkward, such as “get access all the entertainment,” “pries increase,” “traditional entertainments choices” and “hold the importance.” Repetition of “people,” “online” and “entertainment” also limits flexibility. Aim to use more precise expressions and check word forms and spelling. For example, “access all the entertainment they want” and “rising ticket prices” would express your ideas more naturally, while “cultural significance” is more suitable than “hold the importance.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use clauses to explain causes and results, for example, “this is partly because…” and “as a result…”. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and complex attempts are often faulty. Examples include “theaters and cinemas are still hold the importance,” “people busy in their hectic lives,” and “can be accessed from anywhere doesn't concern geographical location.” These contain problems with verb forms, missing verbs and clause construction. There are also frequent issues with articles, agreement, plurals and punctuation, including inconsistent capitalisation at sentence beginnings. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly formed supporting clause, then check each sentence for a subject and a correctly conjugated verb.
