Student answer (Band 6.0)

Theatres and cinemas are a great source of entertainment however, some people believe that these mediums no longer serve the purpose of entertainment as they find it convenient to watch whatever they like over the internet. While others argue that cinemas and theatres are still important source of enjoyment as they find it economicall and they foster cultural values. In my perspective, cinemas and theatres are a essential source of enjoyment because the exposure we get in these places is something we can not experience from the comfort of our homes.

On one hand, with the advancement of technology some people consider watching films or shows over the internet while sitting on their couch. One of the major reason which I believe could be true in that case is they prefer it watching online as they have the freedom to watch as per their availabiliy and they don't have any restriction of time. In addition, they can have the meals of their choice while watcing their favourite shows. In Contrast, they might not consider going out in a crowded place and putting themselves in a difficult position where they have to place an effort to book the tickets and find a seating arragement of their choice.

On the other hand, certain people still prefer going outside and experience the joy of watching a film or a show at a specific place. They find it economical to take out specific amount of time from their routines and going out for these activities. One obvious reason which I experience as well is if I have to watch a film online I may need to subscribe to a specific streaming platform which are mostly charged on a monthly basis so even if I have to watch one film which lasts almost 3 hours I have to subscribe for the entire month that made no sense to me because I often end up with binge watching the movies that were not part of my plan initially.

In conclusion, it really comes down to the nature of the certain individuals and their preference however I believe it is worth the time and money to go out and watch a movive in a cinema as it is a great way to unwind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for cinemas and theatres, particularly in the introduction and conclusion. The online-view paragraph gives relevant reasons—flexible viewing times, eating at home, and avoiding crowds—while your personal example about paying for a monthly streaming subscription supports the opposing view. However, the discussion of the claim that venues matter culturally is not developed: you mention that they “foster cultural values” but do not explain how or give an example. The economic argument is also somewhat unclear, since taking time out of a routine does not itself show that a cinema is economical. Develop these points with specific explanations and examples, and make the comparison between the two views more balanced.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the discussion. Within paragraphs, however, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “One of the major reason which I believe could be true in that case is” makes the point difficult to follow, and “In Contrast” introduces a related disadvantage without a smooth link to the preceding explanation. The conclusion also reduces the discussion to individual preference, leaving the economic and cultural claims less connected to your final position. Use clearer topic sentences and link each supporting point explicitly to the relevant view.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “advancement of technology,” “streaming platform,” “subscribe,” and “binge watching.” These choices help communicate both the convenience of online entertainment and the costs of attending or subscribing. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, such as “they find it economically,” “a essential source,” and “place an effort.” Spelling slips, including “availabiliy,” “watcing,” and “movive,” also reduce accuracy. The phrase “foster cultural values” is relevant but remains general; more precise language about shared experiences, local productions, or cultural events would strengthen the discussion. Aim to use familiar expressions accurately before adding less common vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “as they have the freedom to watch” and the conditional structure “if I have to watch a film online.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “a essential source” has an article error, “One of the major reason” has a plural-agreement error, and “which are mostly charged” does not agree with the singular “platform.” The opening sentence also needs punctuation to separate “entertainment” from “however.” In the long sentence beginning “One obvious reason,” the shift from “if I have to watch” to “I may need” and then “I have to subscribe” makes the structure less controlled. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, and break up long sentences where needed.
