Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some individual are of the opinion that in today's digital era, people do not need theatres and cinemas due to the availability of online streaming website. Others argue that theatres and cinemas are crucial in both cultural and economic terms. This essay will discuss both view and argue that cinemas and theatres are still indispensable.
Some people believe that the availability of everything online has made going to theatres and cinemas pointless. There are different free such as YouTube, and paid such as Netflix, HBOmax, Disneyplus etc. that have all kinds of movies and dramas available. People can watch anything from the comfort of their home. Their is no time restriction, people can easily pause, forward or reverse anything, unlike when watching in a cinema. Also, an unreasonable amount of money has to be paid to watch a movie in a theatre.
There is another school of thought that believes cinemas are important from both a cultural and economic standpoint. When a significant number of people watch movies in cinemas a large sum of revenue is generated. Going to theatres is not just to watch a movie, its a way of spending quality time with friends and family. It also lets people interact with individuals of similar interests. Entertainment content becomes even more interesting when people can watch the live reactions of multiple people. It also fosters a sense of community.
In conclusion, the modern digital era has diminished the appeal of a number of things including cinemas and theatres. I firmly maintain that they are still important for generating revenue and promoting the spirit of community.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and state a clear position: the introduction says theatres and cinemas remain “indispensable,” and the conclusion reinforces their economic and community value. The discussion of online viewing is relevant, with examples such as streaming services, convenience, and the ability to pause or rewind. The opposing case also includes several pertinent benefits. However, the cultural dimension is less fully explained than the economic and social points, and some claims—such as cinemas generating “a large sum of revenue”—would be stronger with a specific explanation or example. To develop the response further, explain more precisely how cinemas preserve or share culture, and support key claims rather than listing benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression is easy to follow, and signposting such as “There is another school of thought” helps distinguish the arguments. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. However, some connections between ideas are basic or abrupt: the first body paragraph moves from streaming platforms to convenience and then cost without showing how these points relate. The second paragraph also shifts from revenue to social interaction and shared reactions. Use more precise transitions and group related points—for example, discuss convenience and cost together, then explain the cultural and community benefits as a separate line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “digital era,” “economic standpoint,” “quality time,” and “sense of community.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to vary your vocabulary. However, several word choices or forms are inaccurate or awkward, including “Some individual,” “different free,” and “an unreasonable amount of money.” The repeated use of “important” and “people” also limits flexibility. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling and the written forms of platform names. For instance, “free options” is clearer than “different free,” while “a considerable amount” is more suitable than “an unreasonable amount” when describing ticket prices.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “people can watch anything from the comfort of their home” and a conditional-style time clause beginning “When a significant number of people watch movies…”. Most sentences remain understandable, so the errors do not prevent communication. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, however: “Some individual are” has a number-agreement error, “both view” needs a plural form, and “Their is no time restriction” confuses “there” and “their.” There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary issues, such as joining “There is no time restriction” and “people can easily pause” with a comma. Proofread agreement, plurals, and punctuation, and practise combining ideas accurately.
