Student answer (Band 6.0)

While some people believe that digital age has reduced the importance of cinemas and theatres, others argue that they are still important, both for the culture and economy of a country. In my perspective, these have lost their importance over time, as people can watch everything online.

Since life has become busy and demanding, it requires us to be active. In order to compete with the world, we need to work more. Hence, we get a minimal amount of free time to watch and enjoy. Consequently, people prefer watching film at home to waiting for a ticket at a cinema. For instance, in Pakistan, almost 75% of the population have smart phones and they watch movies online.

On the other hand, both cinemas and theatres are glamorous things for the retired public. They usually have free time to enjoy a drama at a theatre. Aged people love this sort of activities. When they buy tickets, it will benefit the country's economy. On weekends, people love spending quality time with their family and visiting a cinema with their family is a best way of enjoying. Cinemas and theatres are heritages. Country's culture is depicted at these places. It attracts foreigners who want to learn about local traditions. This is how it is important for the economy of a country.

In conclusion, although cinemas and theatres get attention from retired and foreign people, these have lost their glamour due to the technology. Fast-paced life demands quick options and online films are, indeed, a great option for the employees and students.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both perspectives and state your own view clearly: the opening and conclusion argue that online entertainment has reduced the importance of cinemas and theatres. The point about busy lives leading people to watch films at home is relevant, and the Pakistan smartphone example gives it some support. You also identify economic and cultural benefits, including ticket purchases and the preservation of local traditions. However, the opposing view is less fully explained: the claims about retired people and family outings are asserted rather than developed, and the economic link could be made more precise. To strengthen the response, explain how venues support jobs or local businesses and develop a specific example of their cultural value. Some ideas are relevant but remain general or unclear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting online viewing, a paragraph presenting benefits of venues, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Hence,” “Consequently,” and “On the other hand” help show relationships between ideas. However, the second body paragraph moves quickly from retired people to family visits, then to heritage and foreign visitors, so its progression is not always easy to follow. Some connections are also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “This is how” to introduce a result. Group related points into a clearer sequence—for example, discuss economic benefits together and cultural benefits separately—and use more precise referencing so readers can see exactly what “these” refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “digital age,” “quality time,” “local traditions,” and “fast-paced life.” These expressions help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common language such as “depicted” and “heritages.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural in context: “glamorous things” does not clearly describe the value of theatres, and “retired public” is an awkward way to refer to older people. “Aged people” and “lost their glamour” also sound less natural than more precise alternatives. Aim for accurate collocations and avoid repeating broad terms such as “important” and “economy.” More specific vocabulary for employment, cultural preservation, and audience experience would make the argument clearer and more flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “When they buy tickets, it will benefit the country's economy” and a concessive clause in the conclusion. Most sentences communicate their meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “digital age” needs an article, “a best way” should use the correct article, and “these have lost their importance” has unclear number agreement and reference. In “people prefer watching film,” the singular noun needs a determiner or plural form. There is also a tense inconsistency in “When they buy tickets, it will benefit,” where the pronoun does not clearly match the action. Review articles, singular and plural forms, and pronoun reference, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
