Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some individuals declare that in the digital technology, theatres and cinemas are no longer popular as people can watch all the entertainment they want online. Others believe that theatres and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. In my opinion, no doubt online entertainment increase popularity significantly people can watch entertainment which ever they want, but theatre and cinemas are also played an important role in economically and culturally they contribute to many people jobs financially and fun and entertainments purposes.

On the one hand, online entertainment has reduced the need for people to visit theatres and cinemas. People can now access a huge range of film, television programmes, and other content through streaming platforms at relatively low cost. This is particularly convenient because viewers can choose what they want to watch at any time without travelling or paying for cinemas ticket. For example, a family can watch a newly released film at home using an online streaming service instead of going to a cinema. As a result, many consumers prefer online entertainment because it saves both time and money and provides greater flexibility.

On the other hand, theatres and cinemas remain important because they provide economic and cultural benefits. These venues create employment for actors, technicians, cleaners, managers, and many other workers, while also generating revenue for local businesses. In addition, theatres can preserve culture traditions and provide people with a shared experience that is difficult to reproduce online. For instance, a local theatre may stage traditional plays or performances that reflects the history and values of a particular community. Similarly, watching a film in a cinema allows people to enjoy entertainment collectively rather than individually. Therefore, theatres and cinemas continue to contribute to both economy and cultural life of society.

In conclusion, although online entertainment has made watching films and other programmes more convenient and affordable, I believe that theatres and cinemas are still important. They provide employment, support. local businesses, preserve cultural traditions, and offer valuable shared experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both views and state a clear opinion: online viewing is more convenient, but theatres and cinemas remain important. The two body paragraphs explain relevant reasons, including affordability and flexibility on one side, and employment, local revenue, cultural preservation, and shared experiences on the other. The examples of a family streaming a film and a local theatre staging traditional plays help support these points. This is a well-focused response, although some claims are broad: the economic contribution is asserted rather than illustrated with a specific example, and the cultural value of cinemas is less developed than that of theatres. To strengthen the discussion, explain these consequences in more detail and make the comparison between the two views more precise. The stated length requirement is met; 22 words copied from the prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression within each body paragraph is generally logical, and linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “As a result” make the relationships between ideas easy to follow. This coherent arrangement is a strength. However, some connections are mechanical, and the opening sentence of the introduction is overloaded with several ideas, making the position harder to process. The conclusion also lists benefits without developing their relationship to your opinion. Aim for more controlled sentence grouping and use referencing or transitions that show how each example supports the preceding claim, rather than relying mainly on standard signposts.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “streaming platforms,” “relatively low cost,” “generating revenue,” “preserve cultural traditions,” and “shared experience.” These choices communicate the main ideas and show attempts to use topic-specific language. Some word-choice and collocation errors, however, reduce naturalness, particularly in the introduction: “in the digital technology,” “which ever they want,” and “fun and entertainments purposes.” There are also awkward phrases such as “contribute to both economy and cultural life.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and fluency. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and checking word forms; for example, use “in the digital age,” “whatever they want,” and “for entertainment.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because viewers can choose what they want to watch” and “although online entertainment has made watching films… more convenient.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. In the introduction, “online entertainment increase popularity” needs subject–verb agreement and a clearer construction, while “theatre and cinemas are also played” uses an incorrect verb form. In the example about traditional plays, “performances that reflects” has an agreement error; “a shared experience” also needs an article in the conclusion. Punctuation is occasionally faulty, as in “support. local businesses.” Review agreement, articles, and verb forms, and proofread punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
