Student answer (Band 6.0)

The claim that online entertainment is divided the population in two school of thoughts. In this regard, it is proposed that in this modern age, theatres and cinemas are no longer essential as people can watch all the entertainment they want online many disagreed with it and contended that theatres and cinemas are still necessary both economically and culturally. I, for one believe that proposal of watching cinemas on theaters is an insufficient measure, However without weighing all the factors carefully would be unwise to say the least. This essay will explore both aspects of this discussion.

To commence with, let us focus on the thoughts the proponents of online entertainment. First and foremost, digital platforms provide people with convenient and affordable access to a wide range of entertainment. For instance, people can watch films, concerts and other programm from their homes through streaming services without spending money on transportation or expensive tickets. Moreover, online platforms allow viewers to choose what they want to watch at any convenient time. However, despite these advantages, merely increasing reliance on online entertainment is not the ideal solution because excessive dependence on digital platforms may reduce social interaction and weaken the shared experience of watching performances with others.

However, we cannot ignore the notions advocated by supporters of theatres and cinemas. It is my view that these places continue to make a significant contribution to the economy and culture. First and foremost, cinemas and theatres create employment opportunities for actors, directors, technicians, performers and other workers. For example, a successful film industry can generate substantial revenue while supporting thousands of people involved in production and distribution. It is worth considering that theatres and cinemas also provide a shared cultural experience, allowing people to appreciate local art, traditions and performances collectively. This can strengthen cultural identity and encourage the development of creative industries.

To conclude, after taking into account all the factors outlined in this essay, I opine that the arguments supporting online entertainment are reasonable, particularly in terms of convenience and accessibility, while the arguments supporting theatres and cinemas are more compelling because of their economic and cultural significance. Therefore, I stand strongly in support of the view that theatres and cinemas remain important despite the rapid growth of digital entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a clear opinion: online entertainment is convenient, but theatres and cinemas remain more compelling because of their economic and cultural value. Relevant support includes access to films from home and employment across film production. This meets the task well, though the two sides are not developed equally: the online-viewing discussion is mainly about convenience and social interaction, while the economic and cultural case receives more explanation. The opening also briefly blurs your position with the phrase “the proposal of watching cinemas on theaters is an insufficient measure,” so the reader has to wait for the conclusion to understand your precise stance. To strengthen the response, clarify your position in the introduction and develop the online view with a specific example or further explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that returns to your opinion. The progression from convenience to the social drawbacks of online viewing, then to the economic and cultural value of venues, is generally easy to follow. However, some linking phrases feel mechanical or are used too often, including “First and foremost,” “However,” and “To conclude.” The opening sentence is also difficult to follow because several ideas are joined without clear punctuation, and “the thoughts the proponents” is an unclear reference. Use simpler transitions where the relationship is already obvious, and make sentence boundaries and references more precise to achieve smoother cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “streaming services,” “employment opportunities,” “cultural identity,” and “creative industries.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show ambition. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “divided the population in two school of thoughts,” “programm,” and “watching cinemas on theaters.” “I opine” is also overly formal in this context. These slips do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they limit precision and naturalness. Prefer familiar, accurate collocations and check spelling and word forms; this will make your vocabulary more flexible without relying on awkwardly formal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession with “despite these advantages” and a reason clause beginning “because excessive dependence…”. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are noticeable. For example, the opening has a sentence boundary problem after “online,” and “I, for one believe” needs punctuation around the introductory phrase. There are also issues with number and agreement in “two school of thoughts” and with the construction “without weighing all the factors carefully would be unwise.” These errors make some sentences less controlled, even though they rarely obscure the overall meaning. Focus on complete sentence structures, agreement, articles and careful punctuation while retaining your complex sentences.
