Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, theatres and cinemas are important or not, is a very common argument. Some people may find these as a very important part of entertainment industry whereas, some may find it as not so significant. This argument actually have started ,after online platform became popular.

In my opinion, even though online platform is very popular in the era, cinemas and theatres are still important both economically and culturally.

Online platforms are very easy to access. The subscribtion cost is also cheap. People like to watch movies, series, and news sitting in front their TV, without going to cinemas or theatres. They can find anything online according to their tastes. Some online platforms are: netflix, amazon prime, apple tv, sport 20, etc. All they have do is, just to buy subscription of any of these platforms. They can use these apps not only on TV but also on their cellphones or laptops.

However, the other entertainment platforms, like theatres and cinemas are still popular. People still wait for their favourite movies to release in theatre. Most of the time, tickets get sold out. This craze is seen to happen in most of the blockbuster movies or shows. Over the time, the picture quality in cinemas has become very improved. They are using modern technologies to improve the screen. The facilities towards audiance have also improved. People still like to go to movies with friends. They can enjoy foods and popcorn in the cinemas along with watching the show. As per exmple, I am a big fan of marvel cinematic universe. I go to cinema hall for all new realeased movies. The ticket price is quite high. But, the happiness, I get watching these movies with my friends is more worth to me.

Therefore, in my view, even with so many online platforms, people still has craze for cinemas. The craze has drastically increased in our era, because the cinemas and theatres have improved over time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present a clear opinion that cinemas and theatres remain important, and you give relevant reasons, including the shared experience of watching films and the appeal of new releases. The Marvel example also makes your personal view concrete. However, the discussion is uneven: the online-entertainment view is mainly described through convenience, low subscription costs and choice, while the economic and cultural importance of cinemas and theatres is not really explained. The response therefore addresses the main viewpoints but develops some parts only briefly. To strengthen it, explain how online viewing affects cinema businesses, and add specific economic or cultural contributions of theatres, such as employment, local spending or live performance traditions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about online platforms, a contrasting paragraph about cinemas, and a concluding opinion. Linking expressions such as “However” and “Therefore” help signal the shift between views. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes list-like: the online paragraph moves from cost to content choice to devices without developing a central point, while the cinema paragraph combines technology, facilities, food and personal experience. Some connections are also awkward, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction rather than drawing the discussion together. Organise each body paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it; use clearer references between ideas to make the argument flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “online platforms,” “subscription,” “blockbuster movies,” “picture quality” and “cinematic universe.” There are also attempts at more expressive wording, such as “craze.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: “the facilities towards audience” and “the happiness … is more worth to me” do not sound natural, and “important” and “popular” recur frequently. Spelling errors such as “subscribtion,” “audiance” and “realeased” are noticeable. Build a more precise range for discussing cultural and economic effects, and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including a concession in “even though online platform is very popular” and a relative clause in “movies … according to their tastes.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors are frequent and sometimes make sentences awkward. Examples include “This argument actually have started,” “All they have do is,” and “people still has craze,” where verb forms or agreement are incorrect. Articles and sentence construction also need attention, as in “in front their TV” and the opening sentence, which is not formed clearly. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and complete sentence patterns before adding more complex clauses; careful proofreading would also help with punctuation.
