Student answer (Band 6.0)

A significant number of people believe that in the modern era, due to the availability of internet, theatres and cinemas are discontinuing to play an important role in entertaining people. While others think that in the contemporary time, theatres and cinemas will continue to play significant role in the areas of economy and culture. This essay will discuss both views, while suggesting that theatres and cinemas are still beneficial for the society.

On the one hand, there are a lot of websites available on the internet which provide a wide variety of movies and entertainment shows. As a result, people are inclined towards watching these programs online rather buying tickets and going to cinemas to watch the same series. Moreover, theatres are constructed to accomodate a large number of audience, which will eventually become the reason of noises and interruptions during a movie is playing on the screen. To avoid this issue, people think that cinemas and theatres are not providing the quality of entertainment which people want these days.

On the other hand, the opponents of the former view argue that theatres and cinemas can be the source of economical benefits and cultural development. If a large number of audience is buying tickets and going to watch their favorite movie in a big cinema, it will generate profits and provide different kinds of jobs like gate keepers, ticket checkers, and so on. Beside, it can be the reason to promote a tradition. If a new series or movie is released, main actors and actresses will come on the first premiere to watch that specific show with their fans. These kinds of events become the main highlights of the day, and the customery attires can be worn by the famous celebarities of the event. For example, in the Lux Style Awards, every invited Pakistani celebarity is wearing their culture dresses and perform their culture dance on stage. In this way, a culture is promoted and economy is generated.

In my opinion, governments should invest in promoting theatres and cinemas because these are the main pillars in highlighting the culture and support in the economy.

To conclude, a lot of people think that in the digital age, inclusion of internet undermine the importance of theatres and cinemas because people want to enjoy movie in their homes instead going through the hassle of buying tickets and going to a cinema. In the contrary, others argue that, theatres and cinemas continue to play major role in the economic growth and cultural preservation. I am the supporter of latter view because theatres and cinemas are not only the buildings of providing entertainment, but they serve as the basis of entertainment industry.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state your position clearly: the introduction says cinemas remain beneficial, and the conclusion supports their cultural and economic role. The online-entertainment argument is relevant, with points about convenience and interruptions in large venues. You also explain employment and cultural promotion, using the Lux Style Awards as an example. This gives the response a solid, relevant foundation. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: the claim that audience noise reduces entertainment quality needs clearer support, and the awards example does not directly show how cinemas themselves preserve culture. To strengthen the response, develop each main claim with a more precise explanation and connect examples explicitly to the task’s economic or cultural focus.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the discussion, and the main position is consistent. This is a coherent arrangement, though some links feel mechanical or unclear. For example, “Beside” introduces another point but does not clearly connect the premiere example to the preceding employment argument, while “In the contrary” is an inaccurate transition. The opinion paragraph is also brief and largely repeats the introduction rather than extending the reasoning. Use more precise referencing and transitions, and make the relationship between each example and its paragraph’s main idea explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “economic benefits,” “cultural development,” “premiere,” and “cultural preservation.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems limit precision: “discontinuing to play” is unnatural, “economical benefits” is not the intended form, and “customery attires” and “celebarities” are misspelled or incorrectly formed. Phrases such as “a tradition” and “culture dresses” are also imprecise. Aim for natural combinations and check spelling carefully; choosing simpler, accurate expressions is more effective than using ambitious wording that does not fit the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in the opening (“While others think…”) and conditional reasoning (“If a large number of audience is buying tickets…”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships less clear. Examples include “theatres and cinemas will continue to play significant role,” which needs an article, and “people are inclined towards watching… rather buying,” where the comparison structure is incomplete. In “during a movie is playing,” the clause is not formed correctly, and “a large number of audience is” has an agreement and count-noun problem. Review articles, parallel comparisons, clause construction, and subject–verb agreement. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
