Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the digital era, people can access a wide range of entertainment online avoiding physical involvment. It is widely argued that this emergence of online platforms are limiting the importance of theatre and cinemas. while some believe that these venues continue to play a significant role in people's lives. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaing why I agree on latter view.

On the one hand, online streaming is convenient and affordable. This is beacuse people can watch entertainment at home whenver they want, and in their comfort zone. Moreover, nowdays, home theatres are a major spot while building a home. These online platforme make the users watch all sort of content at relatively affordable cost. For instance, families can subscribe to ott platforms such as netflix and watch a variety of films together. Thus, online platforms offer a convenient and affordable venues.

On the other hand, cinemas and theatres still continue to dominate as they tend to offer unique experience and contribute to economic development. Watching a movie in a big screen with friends and family members create a sense of excitement and enjoyment that is impossible to experience at home. For example, films of top-rated actors still get celebratedby fans on first day shows with sheer enthusiam.Furthemore, cinemas and theatres generate employment opportunites for many individuals who work behind and on screens. Therefore, these venues still continue to hold a major position in society.

In conclusion, although online entertainment gives significant advantages in terms of convience, I believe theatre and cinemas remain important and necessary as they contribute to economical development and entertainment side of the community.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for the continuing importance of cinemas and theatres. The points about online convenience and affordability, shared viewing, the excitement of a large screen, and employment are relevant to the prompt. Your examples, such as families using Netflix and fans attending opening-day screenings, help illustrate the arguments. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: the claim that online platforms are limiting venues’ importance is not explored, and the economic contribution of cinemas is mentioned mainly through employment without further detail. To strengthen the response, develop each main point with a clearer explanation of its significance and make the comparison between online entertainment and physical venues more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some links feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always fully developed. For example, “Moreover” introduces home theatres without clearly connecting this point to online streaming, while “Thus” repeats the claim of convenience and affordability rather than drawing out a new implication. The opening sentence also runs into the next one without a space after “involvement.” Use linking phrases selectively and build clearer connections between each claim, its example, and its consequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “online platforms,” “economic development,” “employment opportunities,” and “sense of excitement.” These expressions allow you to discuss both digital access and the social and economic role of venues. There are, however, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word choices, such as “involvment,” “home theatres are a major spot,” and “entertainment side of the community.” Some phrases are also repetitive, including “continue to” and “important.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, describe venues as “a significant part of community life” rather than using the less idiomatic final phrase.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a contrast clause in “while some believe…” and a relative clause in “individuals who work…”. The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the emergence of online platforms are” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “Watching a movie … create” should use a singular verb. The opening also has a sentence fragment beginning “while some believe,” and punctuation is sometimes missing after full stops and introductory phrases. Articles and sentence boundaries need closer attention as well. Practise checking each sentence for a complete main clause, a clear subject–verb match, and appropriate punctuation; this would make your varied structures more controlled.
