Student answer (Band 6.0)
Development of high quality screens in personal computers and mobile phone have sparked a debate among people; If theares and cinemas are still relevant today culturally and economically. In this essay, I will discuss both views and coclude with my opinion.
First and foremost, the launch of OTT platforms is the primary reason why people argue that cinemas or theatres are no longer as important as they were in the past. Because access to a large number of movies and TV shows is offered through a single subscription of significanrly low cost. In addition to the low cost, watching movies or shows on your personal phone comes with a lot of flexibility. We can watch any piece of content anywhere and anytime, and these apps have features to enhance this experience by automatically starting where it was left. Convenience is the main factor why people are switching to their personal devices for entertairment.
However, some enthusiasts argue that cinemas and theatres still have their cultural and economical impact. Watching a movie on a big screen, or seeing a live performance in a theatre still have that same appeal. Cinemas offers a space to watch movies without any disturbance while theatres offer live performances of artists which still attracts a number of people. Beside that cinemas and theatres also have economic benefits. Most of the movies made today earn a great chunk from box office collection not from the release on OTT platforms. These earnings are an important factor, because it encourages investors to spend more money which eventually lead to more movies being created.
To conclude, I would say despite the advancement in technology and convenience of watching entertairment right at palm of our hands has impacted the theatres and cinemas but they are still relevant.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear overall opinion: online entertainment is convenient, but cinemas and theatres remain relevant. The discussion of OTT subscriptions, flexibility, the cinema experience, live performances, and box-office income is relevant to the prompt. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the online-viewing points are listed more than explained, and the cultural importance of theatres is asserted rather than illustrated with a specific example. Your conclusion restates your position but does not explain how the economic and cultural arguments shape it. To strengthen the response, extend key claims with a concrete example and make the cultural case as specific as the economic one.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “First and foremost,” “However,” and “To conclude” helps readers follow the discussion. Within paragraphs, ideas generally progress logically from convenience to the cinema and theatre experience, then to economic effects. Some linking is mechanical, though, and the opening “Because access…” is a sentence fragment rather than a complete continuation of the previous point. “Beside that” also introduces the economic point awkwardly, while the final sentence combines several ideas without a clear internal structure. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect claims with clearer cause-and-effect links and precise referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “OTT platforms,” “subscription,” “flexibility,” “live performances,” and “box office collection.” These terms make the main ideas clear, and phrases such as “a great chunk” show an attempt to use less basic language. Some choices are inaccurate or informal for an academic essay: “economical impact” is not the natural phrase for financial effects, and “a great chunk” is conversational. There are also spelling errors, including “theares,” “coclude,” “significanrly,” and “entertairment.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision. Aim for more natural collocations and proofread carefully for spelling and word form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “Because access to a large number of movies…” and the explanation of how box-office earnings encourage investment. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening uses a semicolon before “If,” where a full clause or a different punctuation structure is needed; “Watching a movie… or seeing a live performance… still have” has a subject–verb agreement problem; and “Cinemas offers” should use a plural verb. The final sentence also lacks a clear grammatical structure, particularly around “despite the advancement… has impacted.” Work on complete sentence construction, agreement, and punctuation, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
