Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this digital era, cinema and theaters are widely opened and can be accessed by individuals easily. Certain individuals argue that they both are no more essential becuase entertainments can be watched on portable devices like smartphone and tablets and its cost-effective while other oppose this that they are necessary for economic and culture as they create jobs and give unique experience. In my opinion, people dont need to spend fortune on it but having a one time or montly experience is a balanced approach.

On the one hand, the trend of cinema and theaters become less popular due to portable devices people can easily watch movies from the comfort of their home. Furthermore, online streaming platforms like dalymotion and youtube also make it easier for audience to watch free movies on these platforms on their devices which results in cost-saving

On the other hand, it can be denied that, theater and cinema unique experince cannot be replaced by these electronic portable devices. For example, in smartphone you can watch movies on simple small limited quality screen & low quality audio which can destroy the overall experience of movie while in the cinema and theaters it can be viewed in high quality video and audio which makes the experience unforgettable. Moreover, it creates job opportunites for actors, directors, technicians and staff, while generating revenue for businesses.

In conclusion, visiting cinema and theaters is not mandatory when you are out of budget as you can watch shows & movies online free on electronic devices but similary its contribution to the economy and unique viewing experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and give a personal view: online viewing is convenient and economical, while cinemas offer a distinctive experience and support employment and business revenue. These are relevant points, and the examples about screen and sound quality help explain the cultural or experiential case. However, the economic argument is only briefly stated, and the view that occasional visits are a balanced approach is not fully explained or consistently developed in the conclusion. The first side also focuses mainly on convenience and free access rather than exploring why this makes venues less important overall. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation or a specific example, and make your final position more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the discussion easy to follow. Within paragraphs, however, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, the first body paragraph moves from portable devices to streaming platforms and cost-saving without fully explaining the connection to theatres’ importance. The conclusion’s final clause, “but similarly its contribution to the economy and unique viewing experience,” is incomplete, so the ending does not clearly bring the argument together. Use linking phrases to show cause and contrast more precisely, and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “portable devices,” “streaming platforms,” “job opportunities,” “generating revenue,” and “unique experience.” This gives you enough range to discuss both convenience and the benefits of venues. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “widely opened,” “cost-effective” where you mean inexpensive for viewers, and “theater and cinema unique experience.” Spelling errors such as “becuase,” “experince,” and “opportunites” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural topic-specific phrasing and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you express the economic and cultural arguments without relying on broad or repetitive terms such as “experience” and “devices.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast structure with “while” and a reason introduced by “because.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “Certain individuals argue that they both are no more essential” has an awkward clause structure, while “the trend of cinema and theaters become less popular” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence beginning “For example, in smartphone…” also shifts between singular and plural reference, and the conclusion ends with an incomplete clause after “but.” Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation when joining ideas. This will make your varied sentence forms more controlled.
