Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
According to some people's opinion, live theatres and cinema halls are no longer significant due to the availability of entertainment of their choice online, while others debate that theatres and cinemas are still significant because of their cultural and economic impact. In this essay, I shall explain both views and my opinion of how theatres and cinemas can help a healthy community grow.
The reason why some people believe that cinemas and theatres are no longer important is simply because they prefer comfort over chaos. Their point of view for such statement is due to their likeness of watching movies or television shows without any hassle. Watching movies online at home with family or friends don't require booking tickets, going outside at a designated time, struggling to find the proper seats, and so on.
Others who argue that theatres and cinemas are still important is because they choose to view the cultural and economic impacts they bring. Theatres have an immense cultural impact because the local community can conduct plays, or dramas based on regional folklores and fairy tales. This allows the cultural elements of a community to live on through a healthy practice. Live theatres and cinema halls support the local businesses, such as restaurants, gift shops, surrounding the establishment by the audiences which contributes to the local as well as the national economy.
In my opinion, cinemas and theatres are still important because they help to strengthen the bond among the members of the community. They bring together the people of the community under one roof, where they can bond through their love for movie, drama, plays, art, and culture. Besides, they help to create new relationships among people within the community. Friendships and families can grow further strengthening their bonds through this practice of togetherness.
In conclusion, there are logical reasons to support both of the opinions. But in my views, cinemas and theatres are still one of the linking bridges to help a community grow and establish relationships.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and state a consistent opinion: online viewing is convenient, but cinemas and theatres remain valuable for cultural life and community connection. The examples of local plays based on folklore and nearby businesses benefiting from audiences are relevant and help explain the second view. Your own position is clear, especially in the paragraph about bringing people together. However, the online-entertainment argument is developed mainly as a list of conveniences, and the economic point would be stronger with a clearer explanation of how venues create jobs or revenue. The discussion therefore covers the task, but some ideas are less fully supported than others. To strengthen it, extend each main reason with a specific consequence or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: introduction, one paragraph for each view, your opinion, and a conclusion. The progression from convenience to cultural and economic value, then to your own position, is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “while,” “In my opinion,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. At times, however, cohesion is somewhat mechanical, and ideas within paragraphs could be connected more explicitly. For example, the list of difficulties with going to a cinema is followed by “and so on,” rather than a concluding link explaining why these inconveniences make online viewing preferable. The final opinion paragraph also repeats the community-bond idea. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and reduce repetition to make the progression more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “cultural and economic impact,” “regional folklores,” and “strengthen the bond.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some less common vocabulary is attempted. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, including “their likeness of watching,” “surrounding the establishment by the audiences,” and “one of the linking bridges.” Repetition of “important,” “community,” and “bond” also limits flexibility. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they make parts of the argument less precise. Aim for more natural collocations and vary repeated terms—for example, use “preference for watching” and “nearby businesses benefit from audience spending.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast in the opening sentence and a relative clause in “where they can bond through their love for movie, drama, plays, art, and culture.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Watching movies online … don’t require” has a subject–verb agreement error; “Others who argue … is” also needs agreement, and “their love for movie” requires a plural or article. The sentence beginning “Live theatres and cinema halls support…” is awkwardly constructed, making the relationship between businesses and audiences unclear. There is also a comma splice in “But in my views, cinemas and theatres are still one of the linking bridges to help a community grow and establish relationships.” Check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and revise complex sentences for clearer structure.
