Student answer (Band 5.0)

some people favor the statement that nowdays theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want by using internet. Others argue that theatres and cinemas are still playing a vitar role both economically and culturally. I completely agree to the statement because people can watch anything online and online entertainment is often more affordable.

nowdays, people can watch movies , dramas, cartoons and other entertainment programmmes online using smartphones, laptops, and TVs. They can enjoy their favorite content at any time and from anywhere without travelling to cinemas and theaters. This saves both time and transportation costs. For instance, students can watch their favorite movies on Netflix and Youtube at home whenever they want.

Another important fact is that online entertainment is often more affordable than visiting cinemas and theaters because people can access a large amount of content free on platforms like Youtube. moreover, online services provides a wide variety of movies, shows and programme from different countries, allowing users to choose according to their interests, which makes online entertainment more convenient. For example, a family can watch several movies at home through one subscription instead of purchasing separate cinema ticket for each member.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear opinion—that online entertainment makes cinemas less important—and support it with convenience and affordability. Examples such as watching Netflix or YouTube at home and sharing one subscription are relevant. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and you give almost no account of why theatres and cinemas remain economically or culturally important. Your response therefore addresses the prompt only partially, with the main ideas also needing fuller explanation. The response is 177 words, which is 73 words below the 250-word minimum; 24 words copied from the prompt were not counted. To improve, add a developed paragraph explaining the opposing view, then extend your own argument with specific reasoning and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs supporting online entertainment, and examples that generally follow the points they illustrate. Connectors such as “For instance” and “Another important fact” help signal examples and a new reason. However, the progression is limited because both body paragraphs support the same side, while the opposing view is not developed. Some linking is mechanical, and the final paragraph ends without a concluding summary or a clear restatement of your position. Improve the overall progression by giving each view its own paragraph, using references and transitions to show how the ideas relate, and adding a concise conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “entertainment,” “transportation costs,” “subscription,” and “a wide variety.” The examples also show an attempt to use relevant platform and media terms. However, the range is limited and some word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision: “vitar role” appears to mean “vital role,” “entertainment programmmes” is misspelled, and “favor the statement” is less natural than “support the view.” Repetition of “online entertainment,” “movies,” and “watch” also restricts flexibility. Build a broader set of accurate terms for cultural and economic effects, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You communicate your main points through mostly understandable sentences and attempt some complex structures, for example the sentence beginning “Another important fact is that…” and the clause “allowing users to choose according to their interests.” There is some variety, but many sentences rely on straightforward patterns, and errors in agreement, articles, and punctuation remain. For example, “online services provides” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “separate cinema ticket” needs a plural article pattern. There are also missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent sentence punctuation. Practise checking agreement and articles, and use a wider range of accurately controlled complex sentences to make relationships between ideas clearer.
