Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the digital age, people can acess a widerange of entertainment without visiting theaters or cinemas. While some believe that these places are becoming less important, others argue that they continue to play a significent role both economically and culturally. In my opinion, although online entertainment is more convenient, cinemas and theaters remain important to society.

On the one hand, people can watch movies, dramas, and other programme from anywhere at anytime without visiting cinamas and theaters, which can also save travel cost. All you need is, smartphone, laptop, or TVs to acess wide range of entertainment. Furthermore, online streaming services often provide a wide variety of content at affordable prices. For instance, people can watch newly released movies through subscription platforms instead of visiting a cinema or theatre.

On the otherhand, cinemas and theaters continue to provide significant economic and cultural benifits. Economically, they can create employmet opportunities for actors, directors, technicians, ticket sellers, and other workers. They also support nearby businesses, such as resturants, and shops because visitors may spend money before or after a show. Culturally, theaters and cinemas provide live performances, traditional music, and local stories. Experience of watching movie on a large screen with high quality sound can not be replicated at home. For example, families and friends visit cinemas together as a form of social entertainment.

In conclusion, online entertainment is convenient and increasingly popular. Which allows peopleto watch content easily and affordably, but they can not completely replace cinemas and theaters because they generate employment, support , and businesses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses both views and gives a clear opinion: online entertainment is convenient, but cinemas and theatres remain socially important. The two main positions are supported with relevant reasons, including lower-cost access to streaming, employment, support for nearby businesses, and the shared experience of watching a film. The examples are appropriate, and the conclusion restates the central argument. To strengthen the response further, develop the cultural argument more specifically: “traditional music, and local stories” is mentioned but not explained, and the economic points could show more clearly how venues contribute beyond employing staff and attracting visitors. Some claims, such as streaming platforms offering newly released films, would also benefit from qualification or a more precise example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs presenting each view, and a conclusion. The progression from convenience to economic and cultural value is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Supporting details are generally placed with the relevant argument. Cohesion is not always fully smooth, however. The conclusion begins a new sentence with “Which allows,” leaving the clause incomplete, and the final phrase “because they generate employment, support, and businesses” has an unclear relationship between its listed ideas. Improve the links between sentences and ensure pronouns and lists refer clearly to the intended points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate its ideas, including “online streaming services,” “subscription platforms,” “employment opportunities,” “cultural benefits,” and “social entertainment.” There is some useful variation in discussing convenience, economic effects, and cultural experiences. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “acess,” “significent,” “benifits,” “employmet,” and “resturants,” and several expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “save travel cost,” “wide range of entertainment,” and “support, and businesses.” These issues make lexical control less consistent, even though the main meaning remains understandable. Check spelling carefully and build more natural collocations, for example “reduce travel costs” and “support local businesses.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concessive opening (“While some believe…”) and a relative clause (“which can also save…”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. In “All you need is, smartphone, laptop, or TVs,” the list needs correct article and punctuation use; “peopleto watch” is missing a space, and “Which allows people…” is a sentence fragment because it has no independent main clause. There are also issues with plural and determiner patterns, as in “a wide range” and “travel cost.” The final sentence’s construction, “they generate employment, support, and businesses,” is incomplete in meaning. Practise complete sentence structures and check articles, plurals, and punctuation when editing.
