Student answer (Band 5.5)

Although some people say that in the digital age, theatres and cinemas are no longer important as people can watch all the entertainment they want on the online platforms, others argue that theaters and cinemas are still important both economically and culturally. I my opinion, theaters and cinemas hold significant importance as people are emotionally attcahed to them, while it assists the governments by paying a large amount of tax.

To begin with, as there have been several technological advancements in the digital age which are providing numerous entertainment shows on online platforms at low cost. One of the primary reasons for this is that streaming movies online reduces the travelling expenses and saves commuting time. Additionally, individuals are prioritizing overall well-being and choosing comfort rather than travelling to watch a film in the theaters. However, companies like Hotstar and netflix are selling one month subscriptions more cheaply as compared to the price a film. For instance, a person who plans to watch a movie after a hectic workday will obviously prefer it to stream online by resting at his comfortplace rather than visiting a cinema.

The theaters and cinemas are paramount for the nations as they assist them economically, while they also have an positive affect on the cultural aspects of the society. This mainly because theaters and cinemas accomodate a majority of people and earns a massive amount of money, which is then paid to the governments in the form of taxes and benefits the economy. Moreover, watching a movie with a large crowd on a big screen helps people connect emotionally with each other and preserves the cultural value. For example, people may enjoy alot with a steaming crowd around them, while interacting and socializing with people from various cultural backgrounds.

In conclusion, watching movies on online platforms have several benefits but they can be overlooked because theaters and cinemas preserves traditional value and helps the nations economically. From my perspective, people should visit theaters to watch movies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear preference for theatres and cinemas, especially in the introduction and conclusion. The online-entertainment paragraph explains convenience, lower subscription costs, and saved travel time, while the opposing paragraph discusses tax revenue and shared cultural experiences. These are relevant reasons, but the two sides are not developed equally: the online view has a concrete example, whereas the economic claim that venues “earn a massive amount of money” and pay it in taxes is asserted without much explanation. The cultural point about connecting with a crowd is also somewhat unclear. To strengthen the response, explain how these benefits operate and support the less-developed claims with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally stay focused, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” and “Moreover” help readers follow the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with several points joined by “Additionally” or “Moreover” rather than showing their precise relationship. The opening sentence of the second body paragraph also combines economic and cultural claims, then moves between them without a clear transition. Some references are difficult to follow, such as “it” in “while it assists the governments.” Use clearer topic sentences and link each supporting example explicitly to the claim it illustrates.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “technological advancements,” “streaming,” “commuting time,” “economically,” and “cultural value.” This allows you to discuss both convenience and the wider role of venues. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “emotionally attached” does not clearly express the shared experience you describe, “positive affect” is not the intended phrase, and “steaming crowd” appears to be a mistaken choice. Spelling errors such as “attcahed,” “accomodate,” and “alot” also reduce control. Aim for natural combinations and check spelling carefully; precise wording will make your arguments easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “as” and “while,” and most of the main ideas remain understandable. However, errors occur across sentence structures and agreement. For example, “I my opinion” is missing a grammatical element, “This mainly because” lacks a verb, and “watching movies on online platforms have” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “theaters and cinemas accomodate … and earns,” the plural subject does not match the verb. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “an positive affect” and “as compared to the price a film.” Practise checking each sentence for a complete clause, a clear subject, and matching verb forms.
